Not an encouraging performance last night 1-1 with some Chinese club side. Vela scored last kick of first half

First half we were poor, Schillachi is a waste of space, how can Wenger un earth some gems of players but none of which are ever defenders
Nasri looked like he didnt even want to be there, cash in now cause if thats what he is going to put out week after week we might aswell let him go to Citeh
Arshavin still frustrates me!

Second half we looked better when we introduced Wilshere, Ramsey, Walcott, Song, Vermalean we started to knock the ball forward and penetrate into some good areas. We still couldnt find the back of the net but created plenty of chances

the Squad still needs some reinforcements and its needed sooner rather than later :!:

got the below from a pretty reliable blog in the UK

“Who Is Messi? Who Is Neymar? I Present To You: Joel Campbell”

Published: 17th July 2011

After a number of impressive displays at this year’s Copa America, a number of media outlets claim that Arsenal have struck a deal for 19-year-old Costa Rican striker Joel Campbell – a player who has played just three professional games (two in the weak domestic Costa Rican league) and our interest is purportedly off the back of his 12 goals in 18 games for the national team, with only five caps at senior level – however, Campbell is very highly rated with national team manager Ricardo La Volpe singing his praises in eccentric style:

“Who is Messi? Who is Neymar? Gentlemen of the press – I present to you: Joel Campbell. I discovered him playing with cans.”

What’s his pedigree?: As previously mentioned, Campbell has only played three domestic games for his club Deportivo Saprissa (the biggest club in Central America) and this is the real worry as although international form has been excellent he is still unproven across a league season. 5’11″, left-footed forward Campbell had this to say about his style:

“I’m clever, fast and good on the ball, though I think I’m at my best in one-on-one situations. Ronaldo has always been my idol and role model but I don’t think I’m like him, Eto’o or anyone. I try to take the things they’re each good at and learn from them. I watch what they do in the pitch and try to put it into practice.”

How’s the chemistry?: English-speaking Campbell can play anywhere across the front three and seems a born finisher in the face of goal – despite saying he’s not like Samuel Eto’o they have a very similar style of direct running with a neat end product and this predatory nature has earnt Campbell the nickname ‘El Pantera’ (the panther) in his native Costa Rica. Campbell is certainly not a marquee signing and there are still real question marks over whether or not he will ever break into the first team – this transfer is for the future as opposed to bolstering our team (in defence) for the current season. Campbell not played in 75 percent of Costa Rica’s matches in the last two years and would therefore not qualify for a work permit to play in England until at least 2012 (unless we are granted special dispensation) so a Ryo Miyaichi-esque loan abroad seems likely.

Do we have a chance?: According to Costa Rican news outlets, Arsenal have proposed a fee of $1.5 million (£930,000) with a five-year-deal for Campbell and many sources state the signing is complete – however, we are more sceptical after the Ricky Alvarez debacle. Arsenal chief scout for CONCACAF Richard Law is in contact with Campbell according to his agent Joel Batica:

“I have been in contact for several months with an Arsenal scout who works in Central and North America… I talked to the scout who reported to Wenger and the interest grew little by little, because Arsene Wenger initially was unaware of the player. Now the interest is high from the Arsenal and we are here.”

Campbell himself takes nothing for granted but is optimistic about his supposed future at Arsenal, as are we:

Who would not want to play for Arsenal? That’s what I work for but as yet nothing is clear. I am calm: I leave everything in God’s hands.”

Likely bid: $1.5 million. Probability: 9/10, this transfer looks all but done.

Apparently we have told Barca they have until the end of the month to offer the 40 mill asking price for Cesc or he will be at the emirates for atleast another year, unless another club offers the cash..

Yeah seen it! Just thought with this sought of backing from the board Wenger would of moved quicker in the market to reinforce the squad, this in hand reminding Cesc, Nasri even Clichy what the club and his goals are!

Apparently both teams have re-opened talks again today.......will they cough up the cash??!! I think they will, i believe they were just testing Arsenal to begin with to get him a little cheaper.

Barca have had everybody from the president, coach, players, backroom staff, cook, cleaners, local mayor even a Liverpoo keeper tape up Cesc over the last 3-4 years and we have held firm on our position. Now we are willing to negotiate and Barca are not happy to pay our valuation on him 40mil - IMO should be more. Barca are just trying to over power us but as a Gooner Im proud the club has held strong and not given in, as most others do and cave in to the pressure! We should just put him on the market and open up a bidding war, pretty sure Citeh, Madrid even Inter or AC would pay more than what Barca are willing to pay!

Hurry up Barca you tight arses, Cesc wants to go, were willing to talk and you as a club have craved his return to Spain for 3-4 years now. Pay up what we want, we'll move on, Wenger will unearth another Gem and Ramsay will show Europe what he is all about :D

Needs to happen soon aswell cause we dont want to leave it till the last minute and be caught out ie like Newcastle with Carroll and not have enough time to find a replacement.

it'll affect Wenger's plan if this transfer goes longer and longer ..
they need to sign someone to replace their loss .. whereas barcelon team is strong enough .. so they have the power to delay this transfer ..
I think Barca did it well, i can see at the end of it, barcelona will get it cheaper than what arsenal want !!

It wont affect Wengers plan, he would already have a replacement ready no doubt. Arsenal have told Barca they have until the end of this month to meet our demands otherwise that's it for this year. Arsenal are not stupid enough to allow themselves no time to find a replacement.

Wengers approach of Everton's Phil Jagielka has been rejected by the toffees. Not too sure he's the one we should chase, still feel Samba is a cheaper and more reliable player with less injuries.

Also Barca seem to have got their man Alexis Sanchez which means it looks like Fabregas will be staying.....

We went for Jagielka last year with a 12mil bid and Everton didnt budge, this year we go 10mil :?
I said from day dot I would prefer PJ over any! He is better than Cahill has alot more pace than Samba and being English with the new hown grown talent ruling suits. Everton need $$ to buy players so hopefully a bigger bid and Everton might have to sell

Barca say they have funds for Cesc also, but we'll see if it matches our asking price

Jagielka is a much better player than Samba. Dont get me wrong Samba is a solid defender and would certainly toughen our defence up (but who couldnt) but Phil has more class about him.

i think Samba all the way, 6'4 an absolute beast is what we need plus adds a good threat from set peices. we have vermaelan, djourou who have decent pace. koscielny with time i think will come good, but need someone scary back there, need someone we can throw out there against your stokes ect and get dirty.

Rumour has it - Juan Mata is in London with his reps and family discussing 15 million pound move to Arsenal and Cesc to be absent from Emirates cup. I reckon Cesc will be an official Barca player by early next week.

I rate Cesc and always have! As I said last summer after the world cup I think he again needs to really consider his next move.

The Spanish national team midfield is the Barca midfield yet Cesc played most the WC on the bench

Barca declare Cesc as thier #1 target of the summer and have minimal funds to spend due to debt, yet they put all the effort in to signing Sanchez for around 85% of available transfer kitty

And yet are not budging on Arsenal 40mil valuation, but willing to pay what Udinese asked for Sanchez

Watching the recent friendly games for Barca esp one against Bayern Munich, who is Cesc going to push out of the midfield as some of the reserve unknown players are just as good..?? The players at Barca disposal makes every other team in the world jelaous and Cesc would just become another one in the cue. That Thiago is an awesome talent!! He dominated the game (i know its only a friendly) but as I said I rate Cesc but this kid is going to be better than him. We should take him as part exchange and I'd be happy

I see this as another Hleb, benching sitting, move that will kill his career!

We aren't in Europe therefore we will win the league, you said as much in other threads.

Why are your team in the CL? They never win it, so it really is just a waste of time, money and effort year after year.
