PARAFIELD Gardens has taken a massive step towards back to back championships with a 2-0 win over Elizabeth Downs at Argana Park.
The game will be remembered more for its physicality rather than it’s flowing football as both sides struggled to carve out chances.
The opening twenty minutes saw four yellow cards handed out as neither side took a backward step.
In the 11th minute a Nathan Day long range free kick was tipped over the bar by Anthony Stam while moments later Gardens Matthew Tape took a corner that picked out Paul Eboma who headed just over.
In the 26th minute Parafield broke the deadlock when Paul Eboma hit a free kick from around 22 yards which took a deflection and looped over the helpless Ben Aldridge’s head to give the visitors a vital 1-0 lead.
Gardens Andy McConnell, who had received a rather soft yellow card earlier, mistimed a challenge in the 37th minute and he was sent off for a second book able offence.
Emotions spilled over moments later as a melee broke out and the referee branded another three yellow cards as he tried to calm both teams.
Just before the break a Nathan Day shot hit the cross bar to the relief of the Gardens supporters as the visitors went to the break one up.
The second half was high on energy but low on chances the best of which fell to Brenton Agars in the 85th minute we he charged into the boxbut Stam did well to block his shot.
In the 90th minute Gardens sealed the points with some good interplay that fell to substitute Daniel Ridings who blasted his first touch into the back of the net to send a dagger into the Downs championship hopes.
Gardens are now 10 points clear of the Mongs who are surely now out of contention.
Gardens coach Steve Cook was proud of his team’s effort “I was really happy with the result. To go away from home and be down to ten men with an hour to play and win was a fantastic effort. I think today we showed that we are made of stern stuff”.
Ahh to win at the house of Mongs is such a sweet thing even with only 10 men for 3/4 of the game..!!
Yes Rodent it rates up there with the 5-0 drubbing at Hindmarsh but it getting a bit boring and predicatable like Legless and smashed Whiner hope they grow some balls for next year

We can't wait for him to give us a serve (just like when Gardens were beaten by the vale) I will say "Bring it on Mong", he will give me some stick, after a day I will complain to the moderators and threaten legal action about all the nasty posts, everyone will start giving me grief, then I will make the excuse that the nasty posts effect my work because I have clients that look on the forums, I will cop more grief and then I will tell everyone to FK OFF, I will then post another excuse (something like) I threatened legal action as a fantastic joke so the moderator would delete his posts and Nuggett would realise that he has wasted his time posting all of his posts. I would cop more grief from forumites, so I will then go on to say that why would I threaten legal action when I have even said "I'll pay that one Nuggett" and I've even got a couple of his posts saved on my phone. The forums will be quiet for a few weeks after that.......

Totally disagree. There are many hard ball player out there, i didnt see ay cheap shots from Parisi on this player. But at teh end of the day it is amature football. I know myself I get fired up, put the odd hard tackle on but after the game you should eb able to shake the persons hand, without the fear of getting a fist in the face.
The downs-Vale Rivaly is a tricute to that IMO. always tough, hard fought games, often with some scuffles but after the game most shake hands, and if you dont want to- than dont. but dont need to take it further. Its a pitty the ref didnt see the incident. He can still be red carded for that, and with what it was could have missed the rest of the season- and as its after the game- could Parisi make a police report for assult?

i agree in a way Rexie but like i said at times tension boils over. If Parisi didn't head butt the player then the player is a moron but i can't see it being unprovoked. Will be interested to see what Florina decide to do in regards to this as it doesn't look great for the club
