NWJSA competition suspended

Post by Sacred Noodle »

A lot of kids turned up to NWJSA games on Saturday to find out all competition has been cancelled until further notice.

Someone has suggested the father, of a girl injured last weekend, is sueing the organisation – apparently the girl was in goals slid in the wet conditions and cut her leg on a net hold down peg which resulted in stitches being required.. As a lawsuit is pending the competition apparently has to cease?

Dont know how true all that is.

The question is as NWJSA is affiliated with the FFSA will there be further reaching implications?

Does anyone know anything more about all this?

Would be very sad IF the circumstances surrounding the cancellation are true.

Would have thought their insurance would have covered it. Know they have had broken bones in the past.

Great competition. Quite a few good juniors got their start in NWJSA.

Hope it's all resolved very quickly.

Yes broken bones etc in the past no doubt and insurance would cover this however the difference now (if true) is that someone wants to sue ..and (if true) pretty poor form I would think .. dont know any real details though.

I certainly hope this isn't the case. Our children have been involved with NWJSA for the last 9 years. It is where they developed a love of soccer and the motivation to join a club. It has been a wonderful experience for them under the guidance of some very dedicated people. Fingers crossed they are all back playing after the holiday break.

We are talking about equipment supplied by the association, insurance companies will not cover bad equipment or equipment not used correctly. Do you think an insurance company will cover your car after rolling down a hill if they find out you did not apply the hand brake correctly?

Yes of course anyone can tamper with this stuff but again this is up to the organisers to supply a safe environment for their players, if this means every game all nets are inspected and have guidelines, so be it......unfortunately I do not like their chances of fighting this one.

All I can think of in this situation is....settle.

We all know that often nets are set up by well meaning parents or volunteers..a misplaced peg doesnt mean it was faulty, moreso negligent.
Thats why you have insurance to cover you when sued for negligence.

If my car crashed after not applying the handbbrake properly I would expect my insurance company to cover me...thats what they do, cover accidents and liability.

Yes. Saturday mornings played at West Lakes and St Clair (Woodville). The definition of North West has become a bit liberal over the years. U6 to U13.

have seen a number of games, both juniors and seniors, where clubs are using steel corner post stands to keep the flags in the ground.

these stick up anything from 5 to 10 cm's above the ground :(

Apparently they are wrapping the posts to cover the net holding hooks as someone said that it was one of the hooks on a goal post that the girl cut her self (not a net hold down peg that had been previously mentioned).

Now been advised that the hooks that hold the nets onto the goal posts will be replaced with velcro straps to keep the nets in place due to safety issue and it will now take three adults to put up a single net as per safety guidelines. Better safe than sorry I guess

So this will be enforced at all junior clubs as a result?
