Re: How is stic training going?
East u12 still have one trial to go...then not much time till stic tournament (4 weeks!)
Re: How is stic training going?
Interesting to see some east players going west.
Will state players be selected from this tournament
or will they do like last year 8 teams down to 4 teams down
to skillaroo team to be selected after all clubs have done their trials.
Zone Coachs have 4 weeks to do selection State Coachs take 4 months.

Re: How is stic training going?
It is almost certain that next years U13 Skillaroos wont be at their home clubs , so they will have to finalize that squad before club trials (most held late Sep/early Oct).
I dont think anybody is sure if that will also apply to the U14 Skillaroos for 2012.
I wonder how they are going to judge U13 STIC boys this year for selection in next years U14 Skillaroos?
Current U13 Skillaroos have been left out of the 2011 STIC'S, so are any of their positions up for re-selection or are they guaranteed to carry on next year?
Maybe the Skillaroos should compete as a team in the STIC's?

I was told by someone just a little bit closer to things than you that the U 13 Skillaroos will play for Skillaroos only next season.
Unless things change dramatically thats what will happen.
But of course what would he know
(mind you some Kids may choose to stay at their Club over being with U13 Skillaroos?)

Re: How is stic training going?
Skillaroos are a State Team and from the STIC U13's this year, you'd imagine that the best of these players would be invited to train with the current skillaroos after the competition and later in the year a new Skillaroos team will be announced, with possibly some of the STIC players replacing the current players.Big Mac wrote:It is almost certain that next years U13 Skillaroos wont be at their home clubs , so they will have to finalize that squad before club trials (most held late Sep/early Oct).

It makes sense that there should be competitiveness for the places in this team or they would improve only marginally. guarantees of spots are a definite way to produce a team that will be too comfortable and play at less than their capabilities (doesn't sound like anything the powers that be would tolerate, does it? )
Re: How is stic training going?
Clubman, interesting about your comment some east players going west. The FFSA need to get a handle on this and stop it, they should not allow kids to trial at more than one zone, DONE, FINISHED, END OF STORY, seems simple to me. I don’t care on what technicality, it’s easy check the list of kids being nominated and make sure they are only going to one zone. Not difficult to do IMO. If anything, it gives more attention to the player in a negative light cause he has gone out to two zones, which gives the impression he didn’t make the first one. Then you get those idiot parents who want everyone to think their little Johnny is so special that both zones want him, just pathetic. Easy fixed, if players have more than one zone to choose from, make your selection and that's it, no second chances.

Re: How is stic training going?
Interesting comment Chalky. Also shows that the coaches have a very difficult task in selecting a team to play in such a short period of time as they have this year (and can make mistakes). Last year a player that I know of missed out on selection in East zone U12s (both teams) went to West zone via North West (also FFSA linked) was selected and after STIC competition further selected and to the best of my knowledge now still plays in skillaroos?Chalky wrote:Clubman, interesting about your comment some east players going west. The kid obviously had what the state coach was looking for but not good enough to make it in the top 30 or so East Zone players? Just shows that different coaches see different things. IMO trials as they currently exist will always be a difficult way to select a team, and can't beat seeing kids play in their own team to see what they can really do. what do you think?
Re: How is stic training going?
I think the point has been missed? It’s not about how hard it is for coaches to select? All kids need to be given the same opportunities, we cannot determine whether or not they make it to the Skillaroos. But obviously the kid you are talking about did have another shot, simple as that. We could also debate there were many others that could have made it too, but at the end of the day if you simplify the rules and make it stick, there will be no complaints. It sounds to me the issue you are speaking of is not related to trialing at one zone, rather it sounds like your comments should be directed to the coach who didn’t pick this player in the first place, but then again, I don’t know how he trialled either? I agree, they should be watched in their own team.

...agree that with time and resources best thing would be for players to be seen in their own team over time to see what they can do....not enough time or money yet to get this done I'm afraid.

U14 Friendly last 11 July 2011 7pm Burton Park
Watched only half the game. West relatively smaller yet quick short passes and very skillful counter attacking crew. North not settled with each other yet but few times there was careful build up/acurate passes to feet.
Result: West 2 - 2 North

I agree, some great players on show, well done to all involved.black wrote:Watched a couple games today... pretty good effort from all age groups..

To the lad that got injured in the U14 North team, he turned suddenly and fell to the ground-seems like he did a knee injury.
Hope you have a quick recovery from the U14 West Team.

I thought results wasn't important ,as long as the boys played football and enjoyed the environment who cares about the results!

There were no finals, just a round robin event.
If you were that interested in how the teams went, you should have gone. I did and saw some wonderful football.
