Quigley's mid-season club switchup
16 Jun 11 @ 12:30pm by Duane Schultz

http://news-review-messenger.whereilive ... -switchup/

ADELAIDE Olympic star striker Racheal Quigley has made a shock decision to switch clubs mid-season.

The former Lady Reds forward is set to play for State League club Adelaide University SC for the rest of the women’s soccer season after she submitted an application for transfer to the Football Federation of SA last week.

Uni vice-president Kevin Holohan said Quigley, who has scored 23 goals from eight games this season, would provide a massive boost to his fourth-placed side.

“Obviously we are excited to have her on board,” Holohan said.

“We are three years into a five-year plan to get the club back into the Premier League and we’ve got a lot of good young players who will benefit from having someone of Quigley’s experience.”

Holohan hoped Quigley’s transfer would be processed in time to play this week against Campbelltown City.

Olympic teammate Lucy Adamopoulos also applied to transfer to Uni SC last week.

Had a giggle when I saw they published a photo of Rachel playing in her Fulham strip with her Fulham team mates in the background.... They could of at least got an more recent photo on her in ex-Olympic gear or taken a new marketing shot with a Adelaide Uni strip....

Three weeks ago the Senior Men's Chairmans meeting was asked to allow her an exemption so she & one other girl could play in the Boys U/19's competition after telling us that she was way too good for the Women's Premier League & now she moves to the Women's State League.
Something not right here.

Maybe she wasn't enjoying her football and wanted to again. Think it's pointless speculating. It's great way to boost state league I reckon cut her some slack

Racheal's on the move
She is arguably the best female soccer player in Adelaide at the moment, but Racheal Quigley is hoping that a mid-season club change will reignite her passion for the game.
Last week, as reported on nrmessernger.com.au, Quigley applied for a shock transfer from Premier League club Adelaide Olympic to State League team Adelaide University SC.
Quigley had scored 23 goals during eight games with Olympic this season.
The Ingle Farm resident would not go into the reasons for her departure, except to say there were off-field "political" issues.
"I just wasn't happy where I was," Quigley, 20, says.
"To begin with, we worked well as a team and without them I wouldn't have been playing as well.
"There were a few issues with the team and as the season went on I didn't want to be in a place I didn't enjoy."
Quigley decided to watch an Adelaide Uni training session after breaking the news to Olympic she was intending to leave.
And what she saw breathed new life into her game.
"They worked so hard and I loved that," Quigley says.
The former Lady Reds forward and Young Matilda then had a meeting with Uni coach Tracey Jenkins and decided to join for the rest of the season.
"I wanted to help them develop and their enthusiasm was going to help me," Quigley says.
"And going from Premier League down to State League wasn't about scoring 10 goals a game; it was about helping the younger players Uni have and getting them into the game
"At Olympic, I just finnished off the good work, but here I want to help generate the play.
"The girls are so talented."
Quigley, who scored four goals on debut for Uni on Saturday, is set to play for Adelaide United's women's team when the W-League season kicks off In November.
From there she opes for a return to the national side and a possible push for a berth at the London Olympics.
"If I play well in the W-League, then who knows what will happen," she says.
"My ultimate goal is still the Olympics and I don't want to give up on that yet."
News Review Messenger 22 June
and this time there's a pic with her in a Uni top ST.

Are you sure you're not getting the names confused with Victoria Balomenos and Angela Fimmano? As I do recall, they are training with the Olympic Boys U/19s team.

How the hell is this newsworthy?!?
I will be shocked if she gets a w league look in now but i guess that depends on the coach. Still, I for one have needed to reignite my want to play n I found playing a lower grade helps!
Interesting...

Maybe she will get more of the ball here, get more touches.

When the going gets tough, you dont make it easier for yourself, you just have to work harder to get the ball, and only then, you will become a better player.

Didnt she score about 16 goals in one game?
How much more of the ball do you want?

One rumor has it that the coach will be TJ, everything would be arranged, currently HER coach at Uni...
That would explain why RQ was so keen to move there in the first place. Playing there would guarantee her with a WLeague spot, if the coach is anyone else, well, they would have to ask themselves a few things before selecting players...
Obviously, we can only believe this if we believe that FFSA would arrange a coach/position etc before the so called 'transparent process' (LOL)! It wouldn't be strange, TJ has always been "one of their mates", and is also a woman so everyone should be happy?

It's only in the 'local' papers. They've done an ok job, reporting on a couple of 100 game milestones for a couple of PHK players, which is good promotion of the sport. Now if only they'd report on actual games

If you use that example,it makes her switch to lower grade even more ridiculous.

I was told that it was perhaps related with people at the club and she didn't want the BS.
And there were 2 players who left.

(but that was a sideline discussion on Sunday)

One thing I am coming to grips with in senior women's soccer, there is as much BS as there is with men's. Life was much simpler when the kids were in the junior leagues.

Been to watch this girl play the only reason she gets so much of the ball is she reads the game so well. For those people who just bag her shut up. spoke to a few of the uni girls and they absoultly love her as a player. The uni side is made up of 15and 16 year old girls, and you always need experience.

But if she wants to make it into the Matilda's as stated in the article e.g. Get a shot at the London Olympics quite frankly state league isnt good enough. Either is the premier league. She'll have a better shot at playing National Team in Men's 19's or go overseas or interstate.
