Cumberland failed to bring home the result against well organised Sturt.
Sturt proved to be a tough opponent and now pressure is on for Cumberland that have Metro the next game. That will be a make it or break it for Cumberland, if they lose they're out. And Metro are first in the ladder...
I heard lots of criticism for Cumby (coach and general club decisions) but let's not take away anything from Sturt!

Well, well, well...
Cumby v Sturt was a good game generally. Thaught Sturt wanted it more to win. Also in my opinion Sturt played better as a team which raises the question if the "imported" player's by Cumby actually have any major impact.
Apparently Balomenos trains with Olympic Senior men team and is coming to Cumby to play the game at the weekend. Could not see her or Slater and Trimboli to be dominant at all and it was more of single efforts by Balomenos than any team structure to involve her.
Interesting from my point of view was that the Cumby locals had more impact and imo Rhianna Petea and Nicole Calder where the better players. Interesting to see how Cumby will go if Calder is going to the USA by the end of this month.
Sturt on the other hand showed cohesion in their team structure and if Vanessa Reid would have been available who knows what the final scorline could have been.
Sturt will be a better and tougher opponent in the next weeks to come with the young squad which is guided by a good coach to improve every week on their skills and team structure.
Cumby seems to have not much leadership and rely's too much of the " imported players ". Wish both teams the best for the rest of the season.

Sturt have been quite impressive when I have seen them as I recall a draw last time between the two sides.
Sturt are really well coached, play as a unit and make the most of their strengths.
Very disappointing result for Cumby but should roll Metro no problem with their lineup now.
Re: FFSA Senior & Junior Results - 19th June 2011
Cumby dominated the game, with most of it played in Sturts half of the pitch. Hit the woodwork at least 4 times, a number of near misses and even more shots off target - also Sturts keeper made a couple of very good saves.cg1 wrote:Easy Tiger wrote:Incredible upset.Super_Trooper wrote:Prem Sturt Marion 2 Cumberland United 2

At the end of the day though Sturt stayed quite solid, seeming to be trying to shut down the game and look for chances on the break - credit to them because it worked for them on the day, but really with the missed chances from Cumby it should have been a very different scoreline.
Sturt are always a tough team to play against.

Impressive result by Sturt. Well done.
Can anyone confirm if Fimmano is still playing for Cumby or are the rumours true that she has moved to Olympic??

if she has just walked away from the women's game, thats pretty poor, because it would look like she cynically played one or two games just to qualify for Adelaide United pre-selection and then give it up.
Can any Adelaide United confirm that they were told that to play W League this season, they had to be registered for a club??

All the opposite of Cumberland one should say...cg1 wrote:Easy Tiger wrote:Incredible upset.Super_Trooper wrote:Prem Sturt Marion 2 Cumberland United 2

Considering that the coach is also a state coach this should tell you a lot about the decision-making abilities of those who make important decisions for the game...Not saying it's all the coach's fault, but you can do the sums.
Like it has been said many times, with Slater, Balomenos, Trimboli, Calder, Harrison, Fimmano (if she left, again is this a coincidence?), Checker etc., if they don't deliver it's a massive underachievement. Sorry no excuses there.
Also, I don't know how much they will "roll metro no problem" if they can't even "roll" Sturt. Metro are top of the ladder and for as much as sturt can be well organised, Balomenos and Co. shouldn't really have many problems in beating them.
Still, well done to Sturt for an incredible result.

Wow pvfc sounds like Cumby did dominate, here am I talking up Sturt, ET right incredible upset then, super disappointing to come away with a draw.pvfc wrote:

Nice to read though the opposing assistant coach agree Sturt very well coached and play to their strengths sounds like Cumby got done on tactics, oh well next week.
As for Metro well they only have a couple of recognized players plus a few rejects (no offense intended) from other clubs including Cumby as I recall so really on paper Cumby should roll Metro easy.
If Enzo can even get them competitive then the guy is a guru coach!
pvfc I read Chris doing SASI/FFSA Prem team next year, changes at Cumby then?
Has Hewitt stop playing, heard chatter she quit/leaving, be sad if thats the case?
Re: FFSA Senior & Junior Results - 19th June 2011
Wouldn't say they "got done on tactics" - created heaps of chances on goal (as illustrated by hitting woodwork 4 times) was just one of those days when the ball just wouldn't find the back of the net.

Re: FFSA Senior & Junior Results - 19th June 2011
Was there and watched the game. Desperate efforts from Balomenos to score from any position. Not one clear opportunity to score. If you don't have the players who can execute when it counts don't cry over spilled milk. These so called star players should perform every week but it was obvious they can't.
And to say it was one of these days is not good enough if you have on paper all those players which apparently will tear every team appart. I personally believe too much emphasis on reputation than on performance is given here.

Yeah I guess so...pvfc wrote:Wouldn't say they "got done on tactics" - created heaps of chances on goal (as illustrated by hitting woodwork 4 times) was just one of those days when the ball just wouldn't find the back of the net.
No reply on the other questions?
Did I write in invisible ink or something?
Re: FFSA Senior & Junior Results - 19th June 2011
I'd rather play with 'other club rejects' than play for Cumberland!
"Just ask yourself, have you hugged your goalkeeper today?"

Was, is, I presume, still a good club
Going on FN reports you probably wouldn't have to pay or train...
Although you Metro people have a few strange ideas...can't be selected for Prems unless you train twice a week...never catch on that one...!
