Will be interesting to see the style of football we play.

I think the days of going out to win at all costs are behind us.

This can only be a good thing for Australian football.

Ivory coast look much stronger and quicker. We have been sloppy in the passing.

Sounds like the home crowd are favoring ic. As well as the balls boys.

Ivory coast the better side. Better passing and control of the ball by far. Although they look older than our boys to be honest.

I'm sick of being the 'better' side and losing... happy to take the win, particularly in a tournament like this...

second half played better, however we had 40% possession. The Ivory Coast were quality. Not one long ball all played to feet with runners everywhere. If we lose to denmark we are gone. We won't defeat Brazil if we can't keep the ball vs the Ivory Coast.

They didn't test our defence nearly enough. Way too many long shots given how much they troubled our defence when they got into the box. No 19 (S. Coulibaly) by far the best on the pitch, very dangerous. The artificial pitch was interesting to say the least, the game didn't seem to flow naturally (if you'll pardon the pun).

1st Half
Melling seemed the be the only holding midfielder, the other two in the centre were more advanced than they should have been on occasions. This meant Tombides was starved of the ball, forced into dropping really deep and nullifying any offensive threat. Very sloppy at the back, but a lot of this can be put down to nerves I suspect, as King et al were better in the second half.

2nd Half
What happened at half time :?: They came out looking to play in the second half, pushing really hard and resulting in the goal to Makarounas. That goal was great combonation play capped off with an excellent lob of a terrible keeper. The substitutions made were fantastic, although I think Monaco was a bit unlucky to be pulled at 1/2 time. Kamara provided some energy on the flanks, and it his his play that led to the match winner. Tombides showed class, but once again, questions must be asked of the goalkeeping. A camera angle from the back post showed the keepers foot was actually planted past the line of the post, leaving Tombides with a simple finish at the scarsely covered near side. The joeys ultimately protected the lead, but the influence of Coulibaly was evident, as Izzo ultimate ensured the 3 points.
