Napoli's Walter Mazzarri to remain coach after reaching agreement with president Aurelio De Laurentiis
The duo were engaged in a discussion over the Italian tactician’s future at the Naples outfit and a positive meeting has seen the former Sampdoria boss stay on the bench
Find the best odds and bet on Serie A. Walter Mazzarri will remain as the Napoli coach after holding a meeting with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis on Monday evening, it has been confirmed. The duo discussed the Italian tactician’s future in Naples and an agreement has been reached between them, with Mazzarri retaining his place.
“After two years of active co-operation, which led to Napoli reaching the Champions League earlier than planned, the president and coach Mazzarri laid the foundation of a new partnership to continue the program of construction and growth,” read a statement on Napoli’s official website.
Earlier on Monday, both Sky Sport Italia and La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Mazzarri could be sacked and replaced by former Genoa tactician Gian Piero Gasperini.
The 49-year-old’s future with the Naples outfit had come under scrutiny in the past two months mainly because of his insistence not to publicly commit himself to the club, with reports in some section of the Italian media suggesting that Mazzarri wants an improved contract given Napoli’s automatic qualification for next season’s Champions League.
However, Mazzarri himself tempered those reports and was quoted as saying by AFP earlier today: "Each side must play their game but I should be appreciated, even if some people think I've messed up. Thank God I have players who listen to me and I'm serious in my dealings with the club for which I work.
"I can look everyone in the eye. Before I talk to the press I must do so with the club about future plans and everything I've got in my head. Then if something doesn't work I'll speak."
Mazzarri was appointed the Napoli coach in October 2009 and has a contract until June 2013

Well you keep making yourself look like a peb. I dont really care - how the fark could you mix up henry and trezeguet?
One played about 18 games, the other 260 odd.
If you had been taking any notice over, aww I dont know, say the last 11 years, you would have realised that Trezeguet was Juventus' all time leading non-italian scorer.
So yes, I reckon you watched about 4 games in that period.
Stronzo.

Napoli reveal transfer strategy
Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed his plans for the summer transfer market after making peace with boss Walter Mazzarri.
The Azzurri chief was close to sacking Mazzarri on Monday until crisis talks were held yesterday evening.
“I said that I would discuss the Mazzarri matter at the end of the season and I did,” he told Marte Sport Live.
“We met and cleared things up, fortifying our relationship. The Mazzarri case is one which opened at 4pm yesterday and closed at 6pm.
“I spoke with Mazzarri about the future. We did so in an educated, friendly and correct manner. We found points in common with regard to the next cycle.
“Mazzarri is determined and very motivated. We talked about players and objectives. He suggested some roles that needed strengthening and improving.”
The movie mogul then revealed that he hopes to give the Coach four new players before the 2011-12 term begins.
“I’m already thinking about next season, the transfer market and the Champions League,” he continued.
“I know that we need to improve the midfield, but it isn’t as if just signing [Udinese’s Gokhan] Inler will solve our problems. We need four Inlers.
“I’m after a striker who can get into double figures.”
De Laurentiis also confirmed that Christian Maggio and Fabiano Santacroce will remain, as well as rejecting talk that Marek Hamsik could be sold to Milan.
“[Milan Vice-President Adriano] Galliani has never asked me for Hamsik and he could have because we have met recently,” he revealed.
“The only person to request Hamsik was Inter’s Massimo Moratti, but I told him that we were at the start of an era and asked him to not make any more offers for the player.”

Criscito - beauty - someone who can play CB, Left Back or Left Wing Back.
Starting to get a bit of depth now at the back. ANd he has gone to his hometown club.
On the unfortunate side, Hugo Campagnaro was involved in a bad car accident in Argentina where three people were reported dead. He has survived and injuries are not life threatening.
Hope he has a speedy recovery.

Very sad news indeed with the deaths of 3 People in the incident confirmed. Hugo was driving, his best friend killed as well as 2 people in the other car.
Hope he has a speedy recovery but this is not the sort of thing people generally recover from quickly. Even though physically things look relatively good for him, mentally you'd think he'll be a wreck

Lucarelli fears Napoli axe
Cristiano Lucarelli fears that his Napoli spell has come to an end after an injury-hit campaign at the San Paolo.
The veteran attacker joined the Azzurri from Parma last summer on a loan deal with the option to buy.
However, Lucarelli snapped knee ligaments in September during his second game for the outfit and was rarely used once he returned to action in January.
“The club’s silence leads me to believe that they don’t want to keep me,” the forward told Radio CRC.
“I’m ready to sign a blank contract because to end my career here at Napoli would be fantastic. But if the club have other ideas then they are free to do what they want.
“Now that I am well again I really want to demonstrate to Napoli who I am. I think it would be right to do so in order to repay the affection and support of the fans.
“I hope that I am given the possibility to stay, but if not then that is fine – this experience will remain a happy one for me.”
It’s understood that Napoli are keen on netting a new forward, a younger striker than Lucarelli who will be 36 in October.

Napoli will complete the transfer of Marco Donadel at some point on Tuesday, Sky Sport Italia claim.
The former Under-21 international will be out of contract at Fiorentina at the end of this month and he is available on a Bosman.
The 28-year-old’s agent Davide Lippi will hold talks with Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon to finalise terms.
Donadel, formerly of Milan, Lecce, Parma and Sampdoria, will reportedly put pen to paper on a four-year deal.

No €40m City offer for Hamsik
Serie A side Napoli have rejected suggestions that Manchester City have made a €40m bid for Marek Hamsik.
The Premiership side today became the latest club to be paired with the highly-rated attacking midfielder.
However, after rejecting links between Milan and the player, President Aurelio De Laurentiis has now quashed this latest piece of speculation.
“It’s just the same old story,” the Azzurri chief noted. “I have not received any offer for €40m for Hamsik.”
The Azzurri do have a number of players that some of Europe’s top clubs noticed in the past campaign.
The Stadio San Paolo outfit were one of the revelations of the tournament after they qualified for the Champions League.
“The Scudetto? Let’s take things easy,” De Laurentiis added. “Let’s just try and enjoy the Champions League for now.”

Amauri would love Napoli chance
Amauri says he would love to play at Napoli next season alongside Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.
“It wouldn’t be a bad trident at all,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss. “I know Edinson from our time together at Palermo, but the real soul of Napoli is Lavezzi.
“He’s a crazy player and whoever plays alongside him always scores a flurry of goals,” continued the striker.
Amauri’s future is unclear given that he spent the last six months on loan at Parma and has just a year left on his Juventus contract.
“I don’t know what will happen as I’m just hearing rumours at the moment,” continued the Brazil-born Italian international.
“Napoli? It is nice to hear people talking about that option as I had my first experience of Serie A with them.
“They are a different club now though, but I received a lot of affection from the outfit and the fans.”
Amauri did struggle during his time in Turin, but he started to score with regularity at Parma thanks to seven goals in 11 games.
“I was right to leave Juventus,” he added. “Things got difficult at Juve, especially during January.
“I was unable to do anything, but I showed people that I wasn’t to blame thanks to my efforts for Parma.
“I’m happy and I hope to start the next campaign in the same way that I ended the last one.”

Bidding war for Nocerino
Palermo and Italy midfielder Antonio Nocerino is the subject of a bidding war in Serie A, including Milan, Napoli and Fiorentina.
The rugged player in the middle of the park impressed in recent Azzurri outings under Cesare Prandelli.
It was widely reported already that he was of interest to several top flight clubs in the Peninsula.
Genoa, Napoli and Fiorentina were among the contenders, but it is now claimed that Milan are also making a bid for Nocerino.
The Rossoneri would be able to offer half of centre-back Davide Astori, currently in a co-ownership deal with Cagliari.
Meanwhile, Palermo are still in advanced negotiations with Chievo for Andrea Mantovani.
According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Sicilians could include striker Pablo Andres Gonzalez as part of the exchange.
The 26-year-old Gonzalez was signed from Novara in January, but left at the Serie B club on loan, where he scored 15 goals this season.

Santana agrees Napoli move
Mario Alberto Santana has agreed “a three-year contract with Napoli,” confirmed the Fiorentina man’s agent.
The midfielder was free to choose his next club, as the Viola did not renew the contract that expires this month.
“We have agreed a deal with Napoli for a three-year contract,” agent Marco Piccioli told Goal.com.
“Before making it all official, the club needs to sell Jose Sosa.”
Santana will get the opportunity to play in the Champions League at the San Paolo next season.

Napoli join Roma for Lamela
Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has revealed that he faces competition from Napoli in the chase to sign Erik Lamela.
The 19-year-old River Plate player is considered as a rising star of the Argentine and South American game.
Sabatini recently flew to Argentina to watch him, but he has told Radio Kiss Kiss that Napoli are keen on the attacking midfielder too.
“I am aware of the interest from Napoli and we are, to a degree, also watching him,” the official noted.
“However, we are aware that perhaps such a swoop isn’t right at this moment in time, especially as it will be very complicated to complete.
“We are talking about a boy with a strong personality who is doing and has already done important things.
“Nevertheless, I can’t rule out the possibility that he will remain in Argentina for at least one more season as he is still very young.”
Lamela is being valued at €12m and has also attracted the interest of Lazio and Milan in recent times.

Roma will talk to Pizarro
Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has cooled reports that David Pizarro could join Napoli this summer.
“That possibility has certainly not come from me,” the new Giallorossi transfer guru noted.
“It is true that the player has endured some unhappy moments, but these situations happen and it is only natural that misunderstandings occur.
“Certain dynamics exist in the game that sometimes can’t be controlled, but these are normal in the world of football.
“I’ll have to firstly speak with every one of our players and then we’ll take the necessary decisions.”
The Chilean did struggle at times this term and was left out of the side for a period under the management of Claudio Ranieri.
Pizarro, though, once fully fit, returned to the starting line-up after Vincenzo Montella became the Coach.
Pizarro does seem like the kind of player that new Roma boss Luis Enrique would need to help implement his Barcelona-style passing game.

IN:
Dzemali - becomes the best midfielder we have.
Donadel - basically a like for like swap with Pazienza, Donadel probably a little more polished.
Fernandez - hopefully will prove to be a better option to Santacroce. He and Ruiz could turn out to be a formidable pairing for the future.
Mannini - back from Sampdoria...accidentally. Likely to leave again.

Santacroce - in the Dzemali deal. Parma own 1/2 his contract with the option to buy in full. I had high hopes for him, dissapointed too see him go.
Blasi - in full to Parma in the Dzemali deal.
Lucarelli - no extension.
Pazienza - to juve. fuckhead.
MAYBE:
Santana - to come in as soon as a buyer is found for Sosa, who already rejected a move to Panathinakos.
Yebda: no official decision made yet.
Inler - maybe, eventually.
Lamela - likely to leave after River Plates relegation
Add to "IN" a reserve goalkeeper, another midfieider (hopefully Inler) and a striker and id say were done.
IMO we still nedd reasonable cover for Maggio & Dossena, at this stage there is only Zuniga.

Re: SSC Napoli
If Hamsik wants to go, no point keepng him, but the price has to be right - if 40 million is offered, take it, do a deal for Pastore or Ricky Alvarez and move on.

Re: SSC Napoli
These were the words used recently by DeLa and Bigon to describe the current market. The Matavz deal, which had been in place since the end of January, collapsed. The Inler move, also in place since January, is not looking good. The Criscito move also collapsed after Napoli had worked out an agreement with Genoa. The commonality between these three moves is that Napoli was able to work out a deal with the other club, but not with the player/agent. The controversial issues are of course money and image rights. Napoli is about the only big club that insists on retaining players’ image rights. And after Criscito hinted that he had a better contract at Genoa than he would have had at Napoli, it seems like the market is not as difficult as DeLa and Bigon believe. The problem is that Napoli is financially too conservative and players want to play elsewhere.
Napoli has signed players of course. But it’s notable that these players weren’t necessarily Napoli’s first choice, and none of them are truly major signings that will bring Napoli closer to the best teams in Italy and Europe. Let’s take a look at the players brought in.
Mario Santana, 29, is an attacking midfielder, and is an upgrade on Sosa. But Sosa wasn’t a starter, and Santana solidifies Napoli’s bench more than anything else. Santana will likely compete with Mascara for the chance to back-up Lavezzi and/or Hamsik (assuming these players stay, but that’s another blog) At Fiorentina, Santana scored 15 goals in 100 appearances, which is about 1 goal every 7 matches. That’s a pretty good ratio, especially when you consider that many of the appearances were short stints off the bench. But it will be hard for Santana to displace Lavezzi or Hamsik, and Mazz will only use him in centre mid late in games when Napoli needs a goal.
Marco Donadel, 28, Italy Instead of bringing in a player just about to enter their prime, Napoli went out and got a solid veteran who is effective but has 0 senior Italy caps. I like the addition of Donadel, as I believe he is a little more skilled than Pazienza. But it’s not a major step up in quality for Napoli’s midfield. Donadel essentially takes over from Pazienza, leaving the other centrel midfield spot to…
Blerim Dzemaili, 25, Switzerland This is maybe Napoli’s most interesting signing. He will be Napoli’s youngest starting midfielder, and he is known for his work rate and defensive abilities… but he has little offensive upside, and with Donadel sitting back in the Pazienza role there will be a huge role for Dzemaili to fill. Napoli also had to give Parma Fabiano Santacroce as part of the deal. Santa is technically in co-ownership, but Parma have the option to buy and if he plays up to his abilities I’m sure Parma will exercise the option next summer and Napoli will lose Santacroce. If Dzemaili struggles and Santacroce’s career takes off, Napoli could regret this move. Or else Dzemaili can make himself a pivotal part of Napoli’s midfied – it really is a big risk on Napoli’s end.
Antonio Rosati, 28, Italy Rosati’s status as one of Italy’s best young keepers is news to me. At 28, he still counts as young by goalkeeping standards but I haven’t really seen him excel for Lecce. True, many of those Lecce teams have struggled defensively, putting large expectations on their keeper. But a quick youtube search for Rosati’s world class saves turned up mostly interviews. I can’t see Rosati replacing De Sanctis as a #1. For the next couple of years Rosati will be valuable as a backup, and he should get more games than Iezzo. However, if Napoli continue to improve they will look elsewhere for a long term successor to De Sanctis.
Daniele Mannini, 27, Italy With Samp relegated to Serie B, there was no room for them to buy the other half of Mannini’s ownership so he returns as full propery of Napoli. I believe he’ll compete with Dossena for a role as left wingback. A decent backup, and since Napoli already owned half his contract there was little financial investment. But again, Mannini is not an elite level player who will take Napoli to the next level.
This isn’t a new signing, but Gianluca Grava’s contract was extended until June 2012. With Santacroce’s departure, it leaves Campagnaro/Grava as our two options for central-right defence. Grava is coming off a major injury, and Campagnaro is coming off a major car accident. Tests have confirmed that Hugo wasn’t intoxicated and he probably won’t face too many legal problems. But you have to wonder about his overall condition – even if he has no major physical problems, he just turned 31 and after his tragic accident it seems like his career is on an inevitable decline. Federico Fernandez might get a chance on the right, in addition to backing-up Canna in the middle.
There have also been signigicant departures. Iezzo and Gianello either had their contracts expire or bought out by Napoli, leaving the need for a #3 keeper. One name being mentioned is Roberto Colombo, most recently of Triestina and Bologna.
As mentioned, Santacroce is the only defender the has left. Ruiz needs to step up this season, as he and Fernandez are the only defenders under 30.
Pazienza is gone, and Yebda has been returned to Benfica. Napoli now has three central midfielders: Dzemaili, Donadel, and Gargano. One more is on the way for sure, but will it be Inler, Vidal, or somebody else?
Up front Lucarelli’s loan deal was not extended. Napoli still needs a prima punta who can back up Cavani.
To sum up, Napoli have brought in 5 new players: Santana, Donadel, Rosati, Dzemaili, and Mannini. Collectively these players mostly address Napoli’s depth. Dzemaili and maybe Donadel will be starters but they don’t have the same value as an Inler or a Vidal.
Napoli has done a good job making smaller moves that address depth and create a more flexible roster, but there hasn’t yet been a huge increase in quality. DeLa and Bigon have some work to do, as the market may not be as difficult as they believe. It just takes a solid financial investment in wages, especially if the club is going to stubbornly continue to retain image rights.
