Dustin McMahon 2 ?
Southern Knights Reserves ventured to Macedonia's ground at Brahma Lodge and immediately took control of the game although the home side looked much better than their past results indicated. It wasn't long before Dustin McMahon, recovering from a recent injury, posted his 4th goal of the season. On the down side Knights were minus Ben Vidgeon, who was required to bolster a depleted Knights A's and also lost Boyd Lewis early in the game with injury. Luke Gustini, Richard Finlayson, Justin Moule were strong in defense and keeper Phil Smith dealt with most of Macedonia's attacking moves. Sacha Lovric, Sam Jones and Steve Fulton ran hard in midfield to support Tony Harrison, Paul Thompson and Dustin McMahon in attack. Midway through the opening half Dustin McMahon added a second for the game to give Knights a 0-2 buffer. Andre Rickers came on for the injured Boyd Lewis and Knights welcomed new signing Anthony Michaels for his first official game for the Club.
Missed much of the second half due to administrative duties by which time the games was 2-3 to Knights...in the end a good win for Knights in frustrating circumstances.

Dustin McMahon gets on the end of a Knights clearance...

Paul Thompson chased hard all day for Knights..

Luke Gustini puts in a well timed tackle.

Sam Jones looks on from midfield for Knights...and Sacha Lovric looks to close down his opposition.

Macedonia looked much stronger than their league position would suggest.

The winning numbers are 5, 7, 11, 39 and 16...and the Powerball is.......39.

A mid air planking effort from Phil Smith ( and a good save).......as Dustin McMahon is a study in concentration.

A picture is worth a thousand cards...or something to that effect ! (Only because you are not allowed to have words ! )

Soaking up the pressure...

The build up and the celebration as Dustin McMahon gets his second of the game from an excellent Paul Thompson centre.

For each and every action there is an equal and opposite reaction...and a strong aerial challenge from Richard Finlayson.

Sacha Lovric was solid throughout despite a niggling injury.....Thylacine ?

Paul Thompson, centimeters away from giving Knights their 4th. goal...last minute defending to hold out 2-3 winners.

Deserved win for Macedonia..
Knights were only 1-0 down at half time and it wasn't until after the break that Macedonia looked to dominate the game.
Knights without regulars Chris Bradley (missed flight) Paul Martin (away for work) Scott Bradley (recovering from his previous nights Mu Thai bout) and Glen Crute, David Mooney and Ben Jones going into the game with injuries. Steve Maguire, having played the last 5 games as stand in goalkeeper, was also needed to bolster Knights midfield. Added to that losing keeper Phil Smith (who had already played a full game for the Reserves) after the opening goal with a hand injury who was replaced by Ben Vidgeon with a hamstring injury...and many reserves players heading off to Adelaide Oval leaving an shoestring bench.
Knights were further depleted following the Reserves debacle and the injury to Smith required Andre Rickers (having played 80 minutes in the Reserves) to play a further 70 minutes in the A's. It was also a baptism of fire for new signing Anthony Michael as he was immediately required as a substitute just 3 days after signing on for Knights.
Not really excuses ....but a reality...Macedonia could have had 10 but for missed chances and some excellent saves from Ben Vidgeon...
Mustafa Ipekdal looked the only real danger player for Macedonia and looked speedy and impressive with his 4 goals but his last minute send off would have somewhat marred Macedonia's excellent result.
Met and spoke with Baris Ergul at the game and wish him well with his recovery from his ACL injury...

Despite early pressure Knights looked like they might hold out against a quicker Macedonia attack.

Matt Harrison looks on as Knights Captain Ben Jones tries to push through Macedonia's tight midfield.

Knights could have benefited from some sideline help on the day !.....( no, not the man with the flag.)

Alex Field tried hard but was thwarted on most occasions...whilst Steve Maguire (short of on field match fitness) gave his all.

Edin Skrijelj clears from Mustafa Ipekedal in a congested area.. and a dejected Knights concede a goal and lose keeper Phil Smith to injury.

Ben "Touch" Vidgeon makes a clean take despite a hamstring injury.

Another good "Touch" despite the close attention from Macedonia.

Andre Rickers looks on whilst David Mooney carried an injury into the game, restricting his impact.

After being only 1-0 down at the break an early second half goal appeared to break Knights spirit.

Lee White tries to keep tabs on Macedonia's dangerman Mustafa Ipekdal.

Ben Vidgeon with another fine save and a well anticipated clearance by Lee White.

Nigerian born Anthony Michael, receives a baptism of fire as he is required to play at A level despite only registering on Friday.

The game was all a blur for Knights as they succumbed to tiredness and personnel shortfalls.

4 or 5-0....losing count.
