As usual I was reading the paper back to front (like any good sports fanatic does) I spent about half hour reading through the sport section looking for something on this story... and then...

I flipped the paper over and lo' and behold...

I thought the league was well presented as trying to do the right thing, I have witnessed big fights at amateur level at some football games that you never see in the media though. It is high time that ethnicity in our game was totally gone in naming of clubs at least.

I know the referee personally, and he likes to thank all for their concern, he is recovering well and is back at work. All he wants now is for things to get back to normal.
As for organizing a fundraiser, he is totally against it. What he did mention is for the League to set a weekend in which Players, Officials and Spectators to be educated in appreciating the roll of match officials.
From the unfortunate events that occurred on Friday the 13th, hopefully what we gain is not only RESPECT towards official but also amongst players, club officials and spectators. And especially a greater respect and understanding within the different ethnic groups involved with this great world game called FOOTBALL.

After the bagging our sport received by a certain sunday mail 'journalist' 6 years ago as well as many others over the years, no good sports fanatic should be reading that tripe back to front, side to side, left to right what the fk ever.

SAASL is a amatuer comp, why should it hit the main pages of the state newspaper?

Never the less, this story, whether it be our game or another sport, fully deserved the media coverage today, and more so deserved more in the past week. If the stories are true that this club has been kicked out 3 times before for violent conduct like this, the SAASL needs to take responsibility based on their decision to let them back in. Gloss over it all you like.

IMO, if someone SAYS they will kill you, then they are full of shite. Firstly the idiots that mean it, they wont say it, they will just do it. When I hear that that there are a group of guys laying into to the poor bloke, nothing tough or strong about that either. I am disgusted to hear and read about this happening. I cant believe some of you are turning this into a code vs code topic! Soccer attracts much more violence than any other sport. Much more than AFL. Therefore it deserves the bad publicity. Im sorry, but this time the media is spot on and we deserve it.

I think you will find that Albanians (like a lot of other nationalities) are very loyal to their friends/families and would rather not play football than turn on their mates, perhaps for fear of retribution, but more along the lines of the loyalty factor

I understand that, I truly do. No one likes to dog on their mates.

But this situation is just beyond that.

I reckon the SAASL needs to play tough here and say that the club, directors and every registered player from the current and clubs past will be banned for life for having anything to do with the SAASL if they fail to come forwards with those who are responsible.

The SAASL also needs to redo how they accept player registrations.
