Re: BESA tribunal
Story already up on Adelaide Now. Finally SAASL makes the paper... Of course all negativity. Not only have BESA stepped over the line during game day but now have given the whole league a bad name... Kick them out already!

Re: BESA tribunal
I read the article and don't think it makes the league look bad as much A's it does make the journalist look like a fool. The media are always talking crap and spinning stories to make aussie rules look like it's the most perfect game in the world. I wish one day all these Aussie rules and rugby fanatics can open their eyes and realize there is one football in the world and that is ours. Hopefully one day our sport will get the right attention in this country and be shown in a positive light.

Re: BESA tribunal
I decided to read this article as well and found out that my cousin was the referee. After I rang him he said it was pretty bad and that stuff should never happen in soccer at any level. I told him jokingly that he got bashed up because he was a west ham supporter. In any case the guys that hit him should be jailed.

Banned indefinitely... no doubt they'll be back in a season or two as ACOSA or something like that.

Re: BESA tribunal
I know the referee personally, and he likes to thank all for their concern, he is recovering well and is back at work. All he wants now is for things to get back to normal.
What he did mention is for the League to set a weekend in which Players, Officials and Spectators to be educated in appreciating the roll of match officials.
From the unfortunate events that occurred on Friday the 13th, hopefully what we gain is not only RESPECT towards official but also amongst players, club officials and spectators. And especially a greater respect and understanding within the different ethnic groups involved with this great world game called FOOTBALL.

Yes I agree.
They are making the clay tablets as we sit, killing one of their new born and using their bones as writing implements before dispatching the still wet tablets to the Footballnews offices by Mammoths, to be delivered here in 30 years time.

This sort of ethnic animosity and stereotyping (racism) is not needed here.
No matter how bad the actions of the individuals involved, you can't just go & slam the whole lot just because of their nationality.

No of course not. Thats not what is implied here. The whole 50 of them in Adelaide cant be responsible for what 40 of them are doing.otto62 wrote:This sort of ethnic animosity and stereotyping (racism) is not needed here.

Re: BESA tribunal
As an ex-Adelaide Eagles supporter, can say from those that were involved with club in the old days they are very disappointed and ashamed that this incident occurred. Poor form that cannot be condoned but as they have now been kicked out, let the rest of the league teams prosper, learn, and hopefully the refs wont be too put off from what really is a rare occurrence.
PS - good effort from ref at Pontain v Easties today. Pretty good job overall.

PLAYERS and officials of Wingfield-based Besa FC have expressed dismay at their side’s expulsion from the SA Amateur Soccer League, following an investigation into the post-match bashing of a referee.
Besa fixtures have been scrapped after an SAASL sub-committee found some club supporters were involved in an attack that hospitalised Brooklyn Park referee Petros Katsiokalis at the end of a match with Western Strikers at Carnegie Reserve, Royal Park, last month.
An open letter from Besa’s players and board, sent to the Portside Messenger, says the club ``does not excuse’’ the bashing and ``once again offers condolences to Mr Katsiokalis’‘.
The letter attributes the violence to an unknown ``individual’’ for which the whole team was being unfairly punished, contradicting the referee’s account that he was attacked by a group of men.
``Upon the decision of the SAASL to kick the whole team out and our families and close relatives that come to support us each Sunday, we feel it is unfair and unjust,’’ the letter says.
``The players all feel that the whole team is being prejudiced against (for) the actions of an individual, behaving in an unacceptable and disgusting manner, who (it) is yet to be determined whether he has anything to do with the team or the officials.
``They feel they have been left helpless and dismayed by the fact that…a great number of members of the community are considered guilty (and) responsible, and (the league has) taken their chances of sharing sports and an active life.’‘
The players and board members argue in the letter they are being treated far more harshly than a professional team would be.
``So many times we witnessed crowds of fans abusing each other, such as Adelaide United versus Melbourne Victory, throwing bottles at the referees and players and also bashing between fans.
``Subsequently police took the due measures but no teams were thrown out or banned or (deemed) responsible for any of it.
``Or is our case about an unimportant bunch?’‘
Besa secretary George Precaj said the club was considering an appeal against the league’s decision.
``We’re not going to go without looking at all our options,’’ he said.
SAASL general secretary Alex Cichanowski said Besa, which played in the Sunday division four competition, had breached a good behaviour bond stemming from incidents involving its former side Black Eagles Soccer Club.
Besa players were free to switch clubs, he said.
``We’ve been going 45 or 46 years, and this is very much an isolated case,’’ he said.
Re: BESA tribunal
they can appeal all they like, I certainly wont be playing them again whether they're in the league or not and I wont be taking the family to watch any game that they are at either.themagnet wrote:http://weekly-times-messenger.whereiliv ... begs-club/Don't kick us out begs club

Maybe they can go join the FFSA, they are apparently very accepting of Amateur League clubs that feel hard done by.

Time for some righteous indignation
Re: BESA tribunal
So they will just form a new club next year?? Under different name! Lol how stupid and naive do they think ppl are?? As if anyone who has ever played against them belive that they do not know this " individual" . For the third time , they are crying and not taking any responsibility for their actions. Not this time Besa, no one believes you and no one will play against any team asociated with you ever again. Goodbye ! Finally!!!

An unknown man that has nothing to do with the club?
So he just came down to watch some amateurs which no affiliation to either team and decided to beat the shit out of the referee?
Sounds plausible.

Re: BESA tribunal
Actually I remember a game about 20 years ago (the old Albany Eagles) where one of the spectators was a first timer, visiting from Melbourne. A minor scuffle broke out and he went in boots and all and eventually had to be held back by the rest of the supporters/players etc. Not saying it happened here with the Besa game but it is possible.stevie gee wrote:An unknown man that has nothing to do with the club?

Re: BESA tribunal
We'll some of their players have already moved on and signed with other clubs. Florina already benefitting from the besa dissection!
Re: BESA tribunal
I'm particularly impressed by the "other clubs have violent fans too" defence and the comparison with professional clubs that pay to have police at their games. Of course, not too many of those clubs can boast that their fans have put a referee in hospital. Of course Besa are the real victims here. *shakes head*
