Del Neri's building of a team is not my concern, more the style of play.
To date its been slow and predictable.
Not happy going without sleep to watch the crap they dish up.
I can take losing, just don't like looking like a serie B side all season bar the odd game.
He is predictable and I question if he has done enough to deserve staying.
I'd say no and I'm not one that likes a revolving door as its often counter productive.
Progress needs to be made and it simply hasn't over the season.

Without diverting this Napoli thread too much,

Serie A 09-10 - Juventus, 55 points
Serie A 10-11 - Juventus, 57 points (2 matches remaining)

There has been improvement from last season. Who is brought in next season will be key, that and mentality. Concentration in defence can be awful and needs to be rectified. I see what you are saying regarding style, but bring in two or three really quality players and that could change. Juve needs to learn how to break down teams who will defend in numbers.

If he calls quits on Napoli, then he is fair game. Juve would probably ruin him anyway. Juventino compared the current Juventus to the 90's Inter... I disgree, they are worse. They need Moggi more than they need a coach.

Edinson Cavani’s season is over after the Napoli hot-shot was handed a three-match ban on Tuesday.

The Uruguayan was dismissed in the 2-1 loss at Lecce at the weekend for picking up two yellow cards.

After being cautioned for the second time, he ironically gave the referee a pat on the back which has resulted in today’s punishment.

The Uruguayan, who has scored 26 Serie A goals this season after his switch from Palermo, will now miss the games against Inter and Juve this term, as well as Week 1 of the new season.

we are no Milan and dont have Berlusconi behind us, for a succesful appeal.

However, NO PLAYER should touch a referee, in any circumstance.
So, penalty is harsh, but justified!!

harsh and unjustified imo.

Disciplinary commission is laughable.

Napoli have announced they will appeal against Edinson Cavani’s three-match ban. “He was not insolent towards the referee.”

The striker was sent off for a second bookable offence during the 2-1 defeat to Lecce on Sunday and will miss the rest of the season if the ban is upheld.

“Napoli will lodge an appeal,” club lawyer Mattia Grassani told Radio Crc.

“The referee’s report has come in and Valeri states Cavani went over to him after the red card, giving him two pats on the shoulder. ‘Well done, you couldn’t wait.’

“These are the words and the referee must obviously be trusted, but there is a question of interpretation.

“The Disciplinary Commission inflicted the ban because it thought the statement was ‘sarcastic and insolent.’

“I can understand the sarcastic part, but I really doubt they could be construed as insolent.”

De Laurentiis thanks Mazzarri and fans

President Aurelio De Laurentiis made a speech in the heaving San Paolo thanking Walter Mazzarri and the supporters.

After a 1-1 draw with Inter mathematically secured third place, the joy exploded around the San Paolo along with fireworks, blue smoke bombs and the crowd singing unofficial Neapolitan anthem ‘O Suldato Innamurato.’

Paolo Cannavaro, both captain and the only local boy in the starting XI tonight, burst into tears at the final whistle.

As is traditional, Coach Mazzarri was thrown into the air by his players and drenched with water, while Marek Hamsik was main cheerleader on the touchline.

Naturally, banners urged Mazzarri to reject offers from other clubs and continue his experience with the Azzurri.

Edinson Cavani and Giuseppe Mascara were suspended for the Inter game, but came down from the stands to join in the celebrations.

Some players hijacked the motorised medical cart and rode it around the field like a lap of honour!

President De Laurentiis was on the field too, but stayed extremely calm and separate from the celebrations, allowing the players to enjoy their moment and visibly not shaking hands or hugging the Coach before taking the microphone.

“I want to thank Mazzarri and his collaborators for taking us to this point,” were his first words that echoed around the stadium.

“I then thank you, the fans, who have stood by us during the worst moments of Napoli’s lifetime.

“The way you followed and supported this team does Naples proud and is the greatest element we have.

“I promise to help change the unjust law that is preventing many of you from travelling to away games. You will be able to follow Napoli whenever and wherever they will play

Very relieved and happy this morning.

Belted out my copy of Surdato Nnammurato at home at 6am!!

Now the hard work begins, we need to confirm the coach as soon as possible, or move on if he is not prepared to stay. Then we need to first of all f*ck Aronica off. The sooner the better.

Another quality CM (pazienza is as good a gone), Yebda has been bought for 3 million. And another quality attacker.

Thank you Napoli for a great season, made all the 4am and 6am starts well worth it. I'll be doing my best to go over for a champions league game next season.

Lavezzi: "A pity we couldn't fight longer"

Napoli talisman Ezequiel Lavezzi has expressed his regret at the Azzurri's title challenge falling apart in recent weeks and believes it will be tough to recreate the same form next season.

The Partenopei were in the race for the Scudetto until a month ago, but three losses have now left them fighting for second spot with Inter who they faced on Sunday. A draw against Inter has ensured that Napoli finishes the campagin in 3rd spot.

Lavezzi, who has been a fundamental part of the Napoli team for the past four years since then promotion to Serie A to this season where Champions League automatic qualification has been accomplished.

"In the summer we did not expect to fly so high, but the way we started, we then began to believe it.
After the victory in Rome we knew we would claim the Champions League.

"But if you look back, I do regret the fact that this year we had a chance to take advantage and even win the league but only due to a bit 'of inexperience, we could not fight all the way with AC Milan."

In his interview with Radio Marte, the Argentine revealed the decisive moment when Napoli lost their way: "The key game in this sense, was the loss to Udinese. To repeat this next year, will surely be difficult."

As for the squad for next season, Lavezzi revealed his special relationship with Uruguayan hitman Edison Cavani and believes the team must reinforce in order to compete on all fronts.

"I share a beautiful friendship with Cavani, I got him a puppy after the birth of his son. For next season, we should keep together the core of this group and a few additions will give us a wider range to fight for all our goals."

Pocho had arguably his most influential season, but he didnt score in the last 6 or 7 months. If he can score 14-15 goals a year, that would make him a more complete player.

Having said that, he did have the 2nd most assists behind Cossu of Cagliari.

Agreed - needs to score more goals, but I think this was his breakthrough season.

Reja-Gasperini for Napoli?
Next season’s Napoli could be masterminded by current Lazio boss Edy Reja and former Genoa tactician Gian Piero Gasperini.

Azzurri chief Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly met with Reja, who he sacked as Napoli boss in March 2009, in Rome today.

However, according to the rumours, Reja wasn’t offered the job of Coach but was invited to consider a role as Technical Director.

The position of Coach would instead be offered to Gian Piero Gasperini, who would be assisted by Reja’s expertise.

Napoli have had a campaign to celebrate after qualifying for the Champions League, but their future is in some doubt.

Boss Walter Mazzarri is surprisingly considering an exit despite their success and the fact that he has two years left on his contract.

De Laurentiis and Mazzarri are soon set to have showdown talks in a bid to understand whether their relationship will end or continue after Sunday’s last round of Serie A games.

Marek Hamsik has committed his future to Napoli amidst rumours he is set for a move to Milan.

The Slovakian midfielder celebrated qualification to the Champions League on Sunday following a 1-1 home draw with Inter and has moved to distance himself from a move away from San Paulo.

Speaking to Napoli’s official website sscnapoli.it Hamsik said:

“We finally got the point that we needed to get into the Champions League. For me it was an incredible feeling when, at the time of replacement, the entire St Paulo shouted my name.”

With many suitors around Europe chasing the 23-year-old playmaker, the Naples faithful fully understand how significant their vocal appreciation could be in the future of their rising star.

Hamsik’s agent, Juraj Venglos spoke also of his client’s desire to stay with the Azzurri next season. He said: “The rumours about Milan? I do not answer. Marek is happy to play in Europe with this shirt.”

Hamsik’s decision could also be influenced by president Aurelio De Laurentiis, with uncertainties concerning some of the key players like Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi.

The biggest doubt however is Coach Walter Mazzarri, who is yet to dismiss speculation linking him with a move to Juventus. Napoli face Juventus in Turin on the final day of the season.

Inler to keep Mazzarri at Napoli?
Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is ready to offer a raise and reinforcements, including Gokhan Inler, to keep Coach Walter Mazzarri.

The tactician has declared on several occasions that he will not make a decision on whether to stay at the club until he has discussed the matter with De Laurentiis.

A meeting is expected later today, ahead of the club’s end of season dinner, although the latest reports suggest it may well be put off until tomorrow.

It’s claimed part of the package presented to Mazzarri will be an improved contract worth €2m per season, a raise of around €0.5m.

The real issue is how the team will be prepared for Champions League football after securing third place in Serie A.

Mazzarri is demanding at least two or three major reinforcements so that next term is not a terrible let-down compared to this amazing season.

Among those ready to come in to the Stadio San Paolo are Udinese midfielder Inler, who has already been linked with the club for several months.

Indeed, Inler raised eyebrows when he scored for Udinese in Naples and refused to celebrate.

“I think at the end of the day Mazzarri will stay, as Napoli will guarantee those two or three additions he is looking for to reinforce the squad,” said Alberto Bigon, a former Coach and the father of current Napoli director of sport Riccardo Bigon.

“My son asked me about Inler, as I knew the lad from the time I trained him in Switzerland.”

Quagliarella: 'Napoli betrayed me'

Fabio Quagliarella sets a date for his Juventus comeback and blasts his former club. “Napoli betrayed me.”

The striker had a fine start to his Bianconeri career, but snapped knee ligaments against Parma on January 6.

“I felt something crack in my knee and immediately realised how serious the injury was,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I certainly couldn’t blame anyone, as there were no fouls and I did it all by himself. The first six weeks after the surgery were very tough, as I had to repeat the same actions for six hours a day in rehabilitation and it drives you a bit mad. I’m used to rushing around at 1000km per hour, so to suddenly slow down like that is not easy.

“It’s wonderful being back in the locker room and hearing my teammates talk before a game. I have recovered, but am still not match fit, so we decided with the medical staff to postpone my comeback until July, when pre-season training begins. I can’t wait.”

However, Quagliarella also looked back to last summer and his rather bitter split with Napoli.

“They surprised me this season and I compliment them all for reaching the Champions League, but in the summer there were many lies told about me.

“It was said I argued with my teammates or turned up late to training, which was all false. Try asking any of my ex-colleagues.

“The truth is that Napoli had already sold me to Rubin Kazan during the World Cup. They had promised to talk offers over with me before making any decisions, so they were the ones who betrayed me.

“The club told me to find a new side, but once on the market I preferred Juve to Rubin Kazan. To defend themselves from criticism, Napoli threw me to the lions. They were the ones who didn’t want me anymore.

“I am very glad to be at Juventus, as the club believes in me and continues to even after the injury. Last year Napoli couldn’t wait to blame me for everything and they wouldn’t even appeal my bans. It has all been very different here.”

We will never know the truth, but he DID NOT HAVE TO LEAVE. Once we bought Cavani, he chose the easy route and that was to get on his bike becuase he was scared of the competition for a place.
