Sundays +35s

Post by htfac »

This is as I understand it.
12 teams. Play each other once for the league title. Playing each other twice means 22 games which is too many.
At the end of the league split into 4 groups of 3 for mini league for cup quarters. Top of each group go to semis and obviously the winner from the semi's to final. The league will organise games for those teams with a bye during the quarters and after for those knocked out in the quarters.
So 11 league games. 2 quarter final games. 1 quarter bye. 1 semi or 1 semi friendly. Possibly 1 final. So 16 games max 15 min plus friendlies.
Does this seem reasonable?

Other option.
Play each other once. Split top 6 bottom 6. Top 6 mini league play for league title. Bottom 6 mini league. both leagues played as a return fixture from 1st full round.
Then simple knock out cup as random draw with a few 1st round byes. Include any sat +35's???
So 11 league games. 5 mini league games. Min 1 cup Max 4 cup. So 17 games min 20 games max plus friendlies.

Well thought out

Not happy though that clubs have requested the round 1 be moved out 1 wk. Frustrating for the SAASL & clubs that are organised & attended the over 35's meeting 3wks ago which they obviously didnt.

yeah didnt relise that o/35's were starting the same week as the league .. As we dont have a O/35's team.

but what can you do...
so then i can gather that one team who didnt want to start on April 2nd even thought the diary indicates the season would start.. How does that work

Does anyone know what is happening with the +35s? Seems like an updated fixture list has been produced - now with an even number of teams (good) starting 10 April. Downs favoured best by the draw (7 home / 4 away) - Vale would be unhappy (4 home / 7 away) - remaining ten sides evenly split with 5 or 6 homes fixtures.
Whilst the obvious Cup format would be for 4 teams to play in round 1 with the two successful sides joining the other six in the quarter final draw, past experience indicates the format will be much more complicated than that.

I dont know if having home games is a favour or not. That means setting the pitch up more times and also trying to find a referee more times. :D

Also Im sure it would only take a phone call to rearrange a fixture to balance it out.

I think with the Downs vs Vale game it has been changed to matche up with the 1st teams. That would explain this difference.

They had the great Bodo in goal last season, but he did his shoulder about 2-3 times, so understandably he is sitting it out this year

Sad to hear about the great Bodo did his shoulder when we played Farm think it was Spearos cracking shot on goal. But what about the shocker of a ref has he retired :?:

So shoulder injuries have accounted for more than one goalkeeping legend then?

Round 1 - SUN DIV 10 Date: 10/04/2011

Looks like we are back to 11 teams I hate byes :x

INGLE FARM vs PARA HILLS EAST - Easties should win easy hard for Farm to replace Bodo
MOD VISTA vs MOD JETS AFC - Draw too many Modbury teams
ATHELSTONE vs MOD JETS O/B - Jets to win game & biggest whingers
PARAFIELD GDNS vs PARA HILLS WEST - Like to think we can knock Westies off might have to take out Ica
ELIZ DOWNS vs ELIZ VALE - Downs because they will be close to their own bar & even with no Oldredback in goals

I think alot of home games with northern clubs will be changed to 12pm KO we need to this week because of junior games as well. Like the idea of 35's playing at home when seniors are.

to take ica out you would have to be playin in the b or c grade, the silly old bugger has decided to kill himself off once and for all.but westies hav the great graeme latham and mick stennett back so im sure the loss of ica will be small(i hope).

east to win easy
jets afc easy win
jets ob easy win
west to win
downs to win a tight one

Parafield 1-1 PH West
Mod Vista 0-4 Mod Jets AFC
Farm 1-3 PH East

Round 2 - SUN DIV 10 Date: 17/04/2011
TT Gully vs Farm - Gully had bye in rnd 1 so bit unknown will probaly win at home
Mod Jets AFC vs Athelstone - Athelstone had close game against OB but Mod Jets to win this one
PH East vs Parafield - Another tough game this week for Gardens 35s be good to see all Gardens teams taking the points on Sunday at East
PH West vs Mod Vista - Westies pretty strong in the middle of the park not much pace upfront but should win
Mod Jets OB vs Vale - Surprising result for Vale away to Downs last week obviously both teams different from last season but Vale to beat the whingers

Vale had a good turnout of players. They always manage that against the Downs. Matho, Dave Edwards, Norm, Chad, Pudler???, Tonksy???, Mark Allen, and a few other decent players I cant recall the names of. This week could be a different matter. The Downs are missing a few players from last year due to other commitments (mostly junior feds), plus most of those from last year are another year older and slower. But no excuses from the Downs. The Vale scored 5 and the Downs scored 2 and all and sundry had "fun" and were sore Monday morning.
My picks:- Farm, Jets, Draw, Westies, Vale

That's it in a nutshell. Mrs Glimt will go make her annual sojourn to Japan next weekend so after that I'll get out and watch some games.

Round 2 Results
TT Gully 9-3 Farm
Mod Jets AFC 2-3 Athelstone
PH East 6-0 Parafield
PH West 3-0 Mod Vista
Mod Jets OB 1-2 Vale

Round 3 - SUN DIV 10 Date: 1/05/2011
INGLE FARM vs ELIZ DOWNS - Will be a close game considering last 2 weeks results for both teams. Downs boys will be in a hurry to get to the main game.
PARAFIELD GDNS vs MOD VISTA - With a change of keeper & being at home time for a win & a goal to get jnr of my back.
ATHELSTONE vs PARA HILLS WEST - Stones cant win the close games but cant see Westies losing too many
PARA HILLS EAST vs TEA TREE GULLY - We made East look better than there were last week. Gully making a good start will continue their form but be aware of the referee interchange at halftime.
ELIZ VALE vs MOD JETS - Vale with a couple of early wins should continue especially at home.

Predictions

INGLE FARM vs ELIZ DOWNS (3-1) - farmers to break through for first win at home
PARAFIELD GDNS vs MOD VISTA (2-1) - gardens to get up at home based on first round form drawing with westies
ATHELSTONE vs PARA HILLS WEST - (1-4) westies to finally hit top gear
PARA HILLS EAST vs TEA TREE GULLY (2-4) this result could prove to be season defining. Gullies goal scoring power to be the difference over the current title holders
ELIZ VALE vs MOD JETS (2-2) - too tough to call - depends on who fronts up for vale

Blimin heck :o Just noticed the +35 fixture on SAASL website went from 11 rounds to 22! Are they trying to kill us old farts or what. Heard a whisper this was on the cards. Probably the only outcome with the number of teams. 11 rounds too few - 22 maybe a few too many. I think we'll need as many numbers as we can get to survive this season

Correct 22 rounds & no cup rounds but the top 2 teams will play off in the Cup Final at Hindmarsh.

22 rounds (20 games 2 byes). Cool. God bless my knees however. Hope they last the season. Think it better top 4 go into a semi final (1v4, 2v3), then the winners to final.

Btw. All Para Hills East +35s out there. Kick-off this week at the Downs is at 12pm. Please pass on the word.

Also all other +35 team please note that all home games for the Downs +35s kick-off at 12pm.

I think its the best way to do it. That way the two best teams play off at Hindmarsh and the guys plenty of games in.
