Imports imports & more imports!

Post by voldemort »

What is going on @ Cumby???
Import after import and now more!
Great recruiting maybe? but I hear a couple of Prem coaches have knocked back some of the cumby imports cause the players dictate the terms…no fees - no training, and playing positions!!
Parachuting in more imports surely will only make the existing players & parents disillusioned with the process.

HUGE pressure on senior coaching staff to deliver big wins & titles now.

And whats the story on Robertson…injured or something?
How can you bring in a retired GK for the first time 30 min b4 1st game - never met the team the FN post said- when the GK good enough to play Prems last year doesn’t play. Haven’t u had a whole preseason to develop further after a year of prem experience?????

Benefit of the doubt on that one…must have been injured…

Isn't there something fundamentally wrong with
a) asking not to train with the team you're playing for
b) being introduced into a team which has been training and done all the hardyards of pre-season?

as a parent I would be really pissed if my daughter lost out to a ring-in no matter how good they are. What does it do for the moral of the players?

So much for development, lets just buy the players in.

i knwo of some players whos r so injured they cant handle the training on top of games.. n theyre good enough for a team to want playing for them on sunday!
plus if u have a gun player who has work or family commitments but can sort out getting a sunday off i know id take them.

at the end of the day some players natural talent gives them room to not train.

I think its important to understand why these players cannot train. If its because of work, studies etc, that would provide a basis of understanding to all involved.

But if its because these players simply do not want to train or feel that training is beneath then, then I see serious issue in that.

A previous poster also brought up Adelaide United as a valid example of what happens to a team who despite 3 years under the same coaching regime, fails to gel when a large proportion of the team do not train. Courtz whilst as individuals they may be talented enough to not train, but you cannot compensate for the impact on the team tactically and in terms of morale if they do not train as a team. You have overlooked this fact entirely and it is critical.

I am aware from other posts on this forum, that players who have asked to play only, have been rejected by other Prem clubs on that basis.

Ultimately, its a decision for Cumberland, its coaches and committee to decide, and if the club is happy then what everyone else thinks is irrelevant.

I don’t quite see what the big deal is about this.
If everyone at the club knows what’s going on and the players coming in are better than the ones you have even if they don’t train with the team, so what - still got a better team don’t you.
If you don't believe your team is good enough and if you can import superior playesr and tthat comes with no fees, no trainign or whatever well that’s just the cost of getting better quality. The players pushed out will get a game in a lower division won’t they so no one misses out.
In the end you wouldn't consider it for a minute unles you believe you are better off

As for pressure...must be less because you have just recruited better players, therefore better team, more wins.

LOL, so called better players that don't train with the team will never equate to a better team. Sure it might add something extra sometimes but what happens in the long run?

from an outside looking in, its very good recruiting and cumberland will run the club as they see fit.

but wouldn't be surprised if the decision doesn't go down well with exisitng players. If everyone is happy at the club, then brilliant, but cant help but feel that existing players will feel aggrieved to some degree. Your making a big assumption that getting game time in a lower division will make those players feel jubilant about the decision. If we see players leave in the weeks and months to come, then this will reveal whether 'no one misses out'.

as for the the 'pressure', I'm guessing its the increased pressure of expectation. With a host of big name players, the pressure is on to get the results and seriously challenge if not win the league. If Cumberland don't seriously challenge don't you think the pressure will be much higher on the coaching staff than the pressure they would have last year for example??

I reiterate though, if everyone is happy with the policy within the club, then fantastic recruiting to cumberland and well done to the coaching staff.

Yeah get all that but to consider bringing in players who don't train or pay fees (which no one has confirmed or denied all speculation as I best I can follow) clearly says some players within the group aren't up to the standard, so what if they leave they don't have the confidence of the powers that be anyway so no great loss from hierarchy position you would think. Lose some players doesn't matter if you are providing what these 'star' players want then you have replacements.

Pressure...just don't see it...as a coach and or comittee you would be making decisions with all factors in consideration, training, fees, development, team club ethos and you still believe imports better must mean you believe can make a better team and have them play as you wish, easy decision and therefore less pressure.

When you lose home grown players to stars who may not be there at the end of the season or in the clubs best interests, I think has it dangers. But like you said, its all rumours, so just speaking hypothetically.

As for the pressure, its on the coaching staff. Everyone talks up your team and builds this expectation of very high achievements, but I was only trying to explain someone else's post on pressure. I also think its a very tough assignment to build a 'better team' and have them 'play as you wish' when they don't train together. Once again I refer to Adelaide United who arguably had their strongest list on paper this season just passed, but endured their worst season, and I think one of the reasons was that the team hardly trained together. Stand to be corrected of course.

It is not necessarily true saying players will go down to reserves-some would prefer that to the alternative of sitting on the bench. Training twice a week, paying full fees only to play 15minutes or less all weekend. If these players came in earlier and at least trained a bit it would not be bad, however those that endured that and worked hard for spots are now going to be demoted a league or to the bench to watch players they don't know play for a team they don't know how to be in, perhaps over time they will gel, and cumbys other recruits have trained and already have a great repore with players. Status is not enough, and will surely disrupt the team environment. If this is the way the coaching staff want to go, they surely do have pressure to get the title this year-and that's still a big ask in itself. Star players don't necessarily make a star team.

Sorry, are we talking women's "Premier" league football here or one of the social leagues? Sounds like the latter to me but believe it or not it's the "Premier" league. Things like that happened 10-20 years ago. Going backwards are we??

Some points I just cannot understand,
* Players not training with the team they play for [for whatever reason].
* Players being soo injured that they can't train [but are great for a game on Sundays]
* Coaches having thier team play as they wish [with players dictating where they want to play]

Apparently all happens at a Premier League club/clubs.

I think what is at stake here is established Club, team and player ethos plus player development especially homegrown players.
Although you make some valid points, I can't agree at the cost of alienating a majority of players for a few imports but as someone posted if the club and coaching staff are in agreement on it then good luck to them, its really up to them!

Speaking of going backward
A few enquires to a couple of our girls said the Cumby prem coach is minding the State U15 squad, I say minding because I’m told the SASI coach Kevin (M??) will actually coach the team. But anyway that means not at club trainings - maybe gets there once a week I’m told, truth been known I don't know and not interested but so all the more reason to bring in quality experienced players who don’t train or need it, ideal solution.
Storm in a teacup!

Reminds me of good old SAWSA days when the ‘State’ coach was a club coach and selected on “merit” would be 10 odd players from coaches own club! Emphasize absolutely no suggestion of that happening at all though just reminds me… thought FFSA had independent coaches these days for State maybe I’m answering my own question, SASI coach is coaching the team I guess
