I suppose Inter was drunk when they lost to Stirling and the Ref is always a "shocker" according to the experts on this forum so that does not count.
Villa beat BOSA on penalties but hey, that result is now null and void since their defection to Saturday.
Gardens never smashed Villa pure and simple.
Re: Top 10 players in Sat League
Good work Rob I remember scoring that night for Villa before Theo equalised, for Nuggett sun div 1 is the ultimate, if they lose against a sat div 1 side its everyone elses fault except the players....Rob Lozza wrote:More lame excuses. Loz , the lads didnt even train for this game. Season was over already and they didnt take the game seriously as it was the first incarnation of the CoC game.Rob Lozza wrote:More lame excuses. Wanderers certainly took the game more seriously but were the better team by far on the day. I can remember one send off which was pretty fair.KING NUGGETT wrote:In a Champions of Champions game with 8 men still drunk from there league Victory 2 weeks before, I was at the game & the Referee was absolute shocker!!!Off The Ball wrote:Wanderers beat Elizabeth Vale 6-2 in 2008.
I think teams have taken the game a little more seriously over the last couple of years.

What about Villa coming from behind to beat Florina in the COC game???
oh thats right, Ref was a shocker and the Florina boys had "other" arrangements????
Good one Nuggett

Get back on topic.. Sunday guys shouldnt even be commenting on the topic as they dont see enough of Saturday Leagues to make a judgement.

From memory we did go to training for that game but i think we ended up drinking in the clubrooms instead. All i'll mention about the Downs COC lesson we got is to say i flew in on the day after spending the night in Melbourne for the Hawks v Roo's game, I scored, and that Mad Dog ran the City to Bay before the game.

Re: Top 10 players in Sat League
I have played both, and unfortunately Sunday is by far a much better standard. there are maybe 3 top sat teams that would survive and be competitive in div one, a couple at div 2 standard and the bottom couple are really div 3 standard...Number7 wrote:Get back on topic.. What do you mean WAS? I still am even on one legMr X wrote:The USC Lion reject, surely Redders was a better player than him?Happy_Hammer wrote:Alot of talk on this forum is about the Sunday league and the quality they have in that division but what players on a Saturday make a difference?
My Top 10 from the players i know of adjust yours where you see fit. Not quite up to date with all the player moves this year so fill me in if their are new players that would make it...
1) Scalzi (A Villa)
2) Charlie Holding (Bosa)
3) Musci (A Villa)
4) Minnillio (Bosa)
5) George Vatsilias (Wanderers)
6) Kanga (Africa)
7) Goldstone (Sturt Marion)
Calabria (S Villa)
9) Barnard (Sturt Marion)10) Pattinson (Bosa)
Probs a bit harsh on Adelaide Villa who would probs have 6 or 7 in the top 20
Don't know alot about Old Ignitians and Stirling

Nugget your a dick.. Theres always an excuse when a sunday team loses.. Having played in both leagues i can say there is not that much difference.. The only difference is the sunday is more physical... But thats only because theres 90% english sides, and when you cant play you have to be hard..
Re: Top 10 players in Sat League
What a stupid comment Vatreni. There are some very good players in the saturday div 1 league.... But I think the quality is higher in Sunday: Nathan Day, Lachie Campbell, Jarrod Foster (sic), Paul Ebomo, Brooksy, Daniel and Chris Nicholls, along with many others - would do what they want in sat div 1.Vatreni wrote:KING NUGGETT wrote:In a Champions of Champions game with 8 men still drunk from there league Victory 2 weeks before, I was at the game & the Referee was absolute shocker!!!Off The Ball wrote:Wanderers beat Elizabeth Vale 6-2 in 2008.

Your right - the sunday league is more physical. Why because they are "pommie" sides, and cant play? Get real buddy. I suppose guys like Robbo and Ivan Karlovic at Metro, Pezos at Adelaide City are no nonsense defenders because they cant play?
The quality of the 2 divisions was well highlighted by the cup semi finals last year (all sunday teams). Maybe they should def have a Saturday Select V Sunday Select played after the season, chosen by the Sun and Sat Div 1 League winning coaches.....and put this argument to bed (at least for a few weeks).

Re: Top 10 players in Sat League
I'm sure most would agree that winning a league is more prestigious than winning a cup, which is why the Sunday argument about winning or having more teams in the cup is simply just bollocks!
So, on that basis - which ever team wins the CoC wins the argument in that year!
I'd love to see a Sat select v Sun select too...

Problem is that the Sunday sides are always drunk for these games and would be an excuse if they lost

Re: Top 10 players in Sat League
Just to answer your question Bomber, Josh Christison is at MA Hawks and yes he is a gun! I'll start an early rumor here and state that there's a chance he'll be at Salisbury Villa in 2012 to link up with R. Calabria from his Cobra playing days. You heard it here first lads!!

All the pommie sides in sunday div 1 are in some deluded fantasy that theyre in the english premier league and that their league is the best.. The truth is, is that sunday div 1 has more clubs that pay.. Thats why they attract the washed up, money hungry has-beens who everyone thinks are fantastic because they were a good player 20 years ago..

So even though they are washed up......the league is still stronger than saturdays? No worries Totti.

the best saturday teams can match it with the best sunday sides, as indicated by previous coc games.. fact
