Southern Knights travelled to Frank Mitchell Park to face newly promoted Beograd in the 2011 opening round of SAASL Sunday Division 2.
Knights lined up with several new signings including Ben Slater (GK formerly of South Adelaide Panthers), Anthony Rideout (Noarlunga), Sacha Lovric, Edin Skrijelj and Eddy Costa. From last season Knights still had Lee White, Paul Martin, Mick Paay, Stephen Maguire, Chris Bradley, Matt Harrison, Ben Jones and David Mooney. Missing were Matt Daughtry (injured) and Scott Bradley (suspended).
Despite Southern Knights having a good deal of the football, Beograd looked well drilled and took an early lead in about the 10th. minute and stretched their lead to 2-0 five minutes later with a nice headed goal from a free kick.
At about the 30th. minute Matt Harrison was deemed to have been fouled by referee Dave Brandon, and Stephen Maguire slotted home the resulting penalty past former Knights keeper Juliano Campos. The half time scoreline remained at 2-1 to Beograd.
Southern Knights were still having a lot of possession and chances from David Mooney, Anthony Rideout and Chris Bradley but once again it was Beograd who took their opportunity well and went 3-1 ahead.
The game was fairly balanced and midway through late in the second half Chris Bradley sent in a cross that David Mooney was able to slot home to make it 3-2.
With 10 minutes remaining Beograd were able to manufacture two more chances against the run of play and made the most of their opportunities to finish the game 5-2 in front.

In the earlier Reserves encounter, Southern Knights rebounded from a 2-0 deficit at half time to finishing with a 2-2 draw with two quick goals after the break from Dustin McMahon and Sam Jones.
