Re: Socceroos vs Serbia @ ADELAIDE OVAL!!!!!!!!!
Name me the last FIFA game played here with the quality of players in this match?
Re: Socceroos vs Serbia @ ADELAIDE OVAL!!!!!!!!!
Many top overseas stars have played in matches in Adelaide over the years... for both national and club sides, against the Socceroos or the South Australian state team- but maybe not necessarily in your lifetime! I know the Socceroos have not played here for about seven years, and I think they have only played here twice in the last 13 years.IFBB wrote:Name me the last FIFA game played here with the quality of players in this match?
Frank Arok's Socceroos played Juventus in Adelaide in 1985... they had Paolo Rossi, Boniek, Tardelli, Scirea, etc- all their great stars. Argentina played Saudi Arabia at AAMI Stadium in 1988 when they were world champions with a close to full strength side, except for Maradona. Arsenal played Red Star Belgrade at Hindmarsh in 1976- Liam Brady scored the winning goal.
Over the years, such stars as Stanley Matthews, George Best, Bobby Charlton, Lev Yashin and Kaz Deyna have played in Adelaide. New York Cosmos played here with such stars as Franz Beckenbauer, Carlos Alberto, Johan Neeskens and Giorgio Chinaglia.
Adelaide has always been starved of Socceroo matches, and it is about time we got more.. but the size of Hindmarsh and the unsuitablility of the other venues is always the problem.

posted in today's tiser.... personally i dont reckon we will get this game BUT i hope i'm wrong
SOUTH Australia's hopes of hosting a Socceroos clash at Adelaide Oval in June is still up in the air.
And Football Federation Australia has been accused of failing to deliver the concrete proposal before State Government officials to consider hosting big game.
FFA officials last night said the South Australia Cricket Association had been given match details 11 days ago.
However, SACA officials stated FFA had not provided a final contract for the proposed Oval clash.
SA Minister for Sport Tom Kenyon confirmed negotiations were well under way for Adelaide Oval to host the Socceroos for the first time in more than 50 years. But he said the State Government wouldn't be writing blank cheques just to lure the June event to Adelaide.
"There's talks going on between the FFA, SACA and Events SA," Mr Kenyon said.
"But nothing really firm has come out of that yet. They're (FFA) going have to come up to us with a number and at that point we have to consider whether it stacks up financially for the state.
"Once we've seen something on paper then we can give it consideration.
"We're not going to be just a bucket of cash for soccer because they can't get a decent crowd in Melbourne but I think we'll get more to this game than they would in Melbourne or Sydney."
Oposition sport spokesman Terry Stephens said it would be a travesty if the State Government could not win the international clash.
"I'm surprised the Sports Minister and the Premier haven't committed to leaving no stone unturned," he said.
"I believe the major events vehicle should be working night and day to secure this event."
Adelaide-born Socceroos legend John Aloisi says the match would be an inspiration for SA's young soccer players.
Aloisi hoped SA children would have the same chance to be inspired by the national team as he was when he watched Australia host Juventus at the then-Football Park in 1984.
Aloisi last played a Socceroos international in Adelaide in 2004 before retiring from the A-League this year.
Despite Victorian Major Events lurking beneath the radar, the new Melbourne Heart youth team coach said SA youngsters should not be deprived of seeing their Socceroos heroes.
"The kids of SA need to see the Socceroos in the flesh. They need to see they're real," Aloisi said.
"When I saw them play at Football Park that's when I started dreaming of playing for the Socceroos."
Serbia, currently FIFA ranked 20th, is the proposed international opponent for Adelaide Oval.
The Advertiser understands Serbia is set to play Japan in a charity fundraiser for the victims of the recent tsunami and earthquake possibly on June 1 in Japan before flying to Australia

ps, its a question, not an issue!
Re: Socceroos vs Serbia @ ADELAIDE OVAL!!!!!!!!!
Mainly a European thing and has been adopted by others. Gets players back to their clubs a day earlier in preperation for the weekend matches. Won't be an issue in June, but that is how things happen now.

Oh yea. Many things need to change in this town before we get anything.
Whats the deal? Are we getting this gig?
Re: Socceroos vs Serbia @ ADELAIDE OVAL!!!!!!!!!
if people were smart they would come out in force and prove to the ffa that we deserve games, the kiwis are a very good side, if we get 20k then we will not get a game for a very long time, its that simple, its a full strength aussie side, they deserve a full house when they play in ausPetro83 wrote:If we get NZ we will not get more than 20k!

Petro is a nice guy, I've met him. I think more people like you DOC are needed, but Petro is correct, sadly no more than 20k would show up. Why? Because if it's a friendly, nobody cares. Further to add, it's a friendly against what people would think is a crap team. Those people are uneducated when it comes to football. Sometimes I question the patriotism of people.
Re: Socceroos vs Serbia @ ADELAIDE OVAL!!!!!!!!!
i know hes right, but people are always pessemistic, and when we dont get the socceroos playing here much, i would hope for some excitement, but its all negative and people saying they are not goping, even though cahill, kewell et al. are playingYids wrote:Petro is a nice guy, I've met him. and yes the kiwis are a decent side...
Re: Socceroos vs Serbia @ ADELAIDE OVAL!!!!!!!!!
I find nothing wrong with your statement, hell i would go and watch the socceroos play Laos if they came here, but the truth is the fence sitters and bandwagoners wont go if its the kiwis, die hards like me, you, yids and jimmy will be there with bells on. if we get the green light and its againt NZ then the ffa better promote the fk out of this game, make sure the adelaide public know that cahill, kewell, schwartzer and neil will be playing. for it to be a success a crowd of 30-35k is needed. if we dont get the crowd then we have no right to whinge in the future that we get nothing. but fingers crossed we get something and the adelaide public go to the game. would love to see us play scotland!DOC wrote:if people were smart they would come out in force and prove to the ffa that we deserve games, the kiwis are a very good side, if we get 20k then we will not get a game for a very long time, its that simple, its a full strength aussie side, they deserve a full house when they play in ausPetro83 wrote:If we get NZ we will not get more than 20k!
