Travel expenses would create uncertainty of player availability from week to week, cause personal financial stress that would not be fair to players and affect their playing ability.
There are a number of options to keep the Lady Reds operational:
Which ever system is used, the team must be run as a club and business. It would be many years before the club could come close to breaking even on costs, so I reckon the best option would be a cooperative, with stake holders from Adelaide United, FFA, FFSA, business, local government and supporters.
A lot of volunteers would be required for many jobs, especially in the beginning; lawyers to help draw up contracts, business people to start a business plan, a constitution, etc.
Not every job can have a volunteer, some positions will have to be paid positions, either fully or partially to cover expenses.
There's lots to it but it is possible if enough people put their hand up. I also think that if the right people are involved there would be a lot of interest form the community, there are people that want to help and be part of a football (soccer) club that they can have a say and vote to be truly part of the club.
