I think they are just confirming that they are continuing, there was talk they may have been heading for Saturday competition. Always good to see one of the old clubs of SAASL carry on,maybe they may sign some players from their neighbour club ?

mmm div 4 .... unless SAASL move a few teams up due to high teams pulling out of the comp or moving to saturdays... i think we finished 4th
yea they were lots of rumours that we were going over to saturdays ... mainly the a's & b's tho

there is a new club that may form in around the local area tho... on a saturday, we will see if that gets off the ground

I think caretaker coach's comments were said in jest -most of us know that Athelstone have a proud and long association with the SAASL, and long may it continue.

NAB / Council and we decided it was better to have all our teams on the same night

So why did Nick quit? He is normally a big fan of Athelstone (having coached there on and off)
Also ..... do you have anyone taking his place to coach yet?

I too am disappointed for Nick, and for Athelstone,he has put many hours into that club. From the little I know, appears to be some internal issues which are always a threat when you have at least two clubs sharing the same ground. Seems as though Athelstone lost the dispute over training nights, and had to change. Nick works shift work, already had his hours locked in to work around his original designated training nights, now the nights have been "changed" he cant coach on those nights.
I only know because we were looking forward to play in their carnival, which has now been cancelled, also had trial game against them which has been put on hold for now.
It must also be hard for the players as well,I have seen clubs fall apart when things get political,I really hope all the players and committee from Athelstone stick together on this one and battle it out.

I hope the people from Athelstone did not mind me commenting on the matter, I just feel something had to be said,as I too was once involved with a club which had another club "move in" and "share" our venue. They thought because they were bigger club had more money, would bully us out. However they underestimated the strength in a club that is,and stays united.Pleased to say that the "new" tenants have now moved elsewhere.

Cheers GB, I am involved with Flinders, I have a few friends in the Men's and Women's team at Athelstone.
I believe I am catching up with Tony this week.

How are you going with starting up a Juniors again?

NAB have always been a problem wherever they have been based due to their arrogance and inability to stick to an agreement.
The older I get the better I was.

Looking at growing our junior teams from 4 to 8 this year depending on the turnout of new players.

Currently the hot weather is preventing our juniors training but we hope to see a big turnout once the weather cools down.

We had a better turnout tonight with our seniors and new players. We hope to see the turn out of news players keep improving over the coming weeks.

While Nick has retired from coaching he is still involved with the club in providing invaluable advice to the volunteers at the club. With over 30 years of coaching experience his advice has been instrumental in helping the committee to keep the club running.
