1-0 down and he brought on Kilkenny, why in the hell would you not put on somebody like Nathan Burns, somebody who is going to run at defenders with some pace, we had nothing to lose! In other news we need to work on is a set piece specialist, that clutch free kick was the biggest waste of excitemnet ive ever experienced. Our corners were woeful always going long we're lucky Japan just defended poorly off them and we managed to actually create some half chances.
Re: Australia vs Japan ASIAN CUP FINAL
We should have won. We were the better side in a tight and quality game.
Socceroos problems can be summed up with.
1) Our best strikers are actually midfielders. (Kewell and Cahill)
2) David Carney.

Possibly a tactic designed for this tournament....it got them to the final...njords_saga wrote:after watching that game australian soccer has gone back 20years. long ball rubbish isn't going to see the socceroos very

Re: Australia vs Japan ASIAN CUP FINAL
but attacking forwards who can use their "tricks" to actually beat "cleanly" a player is lacking in this country.
what we have is a player that can outrun & out muscle defenders...clean dribbling skillful stuff that say..Nicky Carle can achieve...is not at our highest standard...not yet anyway.

Re: Australia vs Japan ASIAN CUP FINAL
as a spectacle, terrible match
the crowd appeared so bored they resorted to the Mexican Wave
even Blatter went home
Aussies did their best to spoil and stop the Japanese from playing their football but in the end quality won out
it was a good try from Australia, but they just werent good enough
add to this, Japan should've had 2 penalties in the first half

I know you're obviously loving the result....makes for good fishing.
Quality did not win out in the end...Japan did....2 good finishes and 1 went in as a result of defensive lapse in the 112th. minute.

this needs to be put into perspective. i think Aussie football may have a difficult next 4 years as the quality is just not coming through any more as it did in the 90's

S Korea didnt beat Japan or Australia either.
PS - didnt think it was a bad game at all, apart from some poor finishing, both teams gave it the full throttle. Live, learn.

Heartbreak
We just cant catch a break in these big tournaments. And to make it worse we got a bus from crown caisno at 5am and while walking to our hotel the sun started rising...worst feeling!
Harry Kewell and David Carney, 2 players who if they did their jobs, Australia would have won the game.

There was very, very little separating the top three teams in this Asian Cup.Russia2018 wrote:in the end Australia could not defeat Korea or Japanswannsong wrote:= Valeri.....they were all over each other.Russia2018 wrote:as a spectacle, terrible match

True, Australia needs to rebuild their team, but should have no trouble remaining in the top three over the next 4 years.

Don't know which match you were watching.
In the stadium, the atmosphere was electric and appeared to be played end-to-end. Both penalties were not there. Australia dominated the chances and should have won. It had nothing to do with 'quality'. The game was won and lost on a mistake.

Syria's obviously the best team in the Cup then, and unluckily got knocked out due to refereeing errors, amirite.Kitchimo wrote: Neither Korea nor Japan could defeat Australia in 90 minutes either....

Japan beat Syria 2-1, but couldn't beat Jordan.

Re: Australia vs Japan ASIAN CUP FINAL
We needed Josh Kennedy for all those long diagonal crosses slung in.
ps, did anyone see that graph on FoxsportsFC tonite (Tues) of current players' ages if they made it to 2014? It ranged from 41 to most of them in the mid-thirties, to just a couple at 29 years of age. It's stating the obvious, but we need renewal!

Re: Australia vs Japan ASIAN CUP FINAL
the scary thing is, zaccheroni is targetting that japanese side to 2014, yet it was ticking along nicely with players like nagatomo, honda, kagawa, okazaki and endo, plus tulios pressence to come into the backline, things look good for the blue samurai
Re: Australia vs Japan ASIAN CUP FINAL
Nagamoto signed for Inter Milan after the tournament!
