Official: Napoli sign Ruiz

Napoli have announced that they have completed the signing of Espanyol centre-back Victor Ruiz.

The 21-year-old centre-back joins on loan until the end of the season.

He will then sign on a permanent basis in June, putting pen to paper on a four-year deal.

Jesus Datolo, the Napoli midfielder who has been on loan with Espanyol, will now sign outright for the Spanish club.

Ruiz was in Italy today to take care of the paperwork.

He will return to Barcelona and hold a Press Conference to bid farewell to Espanyol.

We beat Juventus, Milan, Real, Inter and Fiorentina to the punch, so he must be ok.

With Fernandez arriving in June, the defensive stocks all of a sudden are looking pretty good.

Pazzini has signed fo Inter, which is good given that he wont be lining up for Samp against us on Sunday.

Ruiz agrees Napoli move January 27, 2011

Napoli have reached an agreement to sign Espanyol defender Victor Ruiz on a permanent deal.

Ruiz, 21, will sign a contract until June 2015 with Napoli on Friday pending a medical.

A statement from Espanyol read: "RCD Espanyol and SSC Napoli have reached an agreement for defender Victor Ruiz to join the Italian team once he completes a medical in Naples on Friday.

"Ruiz will travel this afternoon to Italy and is expected to sign a four-and-a-half year contract with Napoli."

Ruiz, who was a reported target of Manchester City last month, attracted interest from across Europe following fine performances with the Primera Liga side this season.

He will become Napoli's second reinforcement in the winter transfer market following the arrival of defender Lautaro Fernandez from Argentinian side Tigres earlier this month.

Ruiz has yet to break into the full international squad but has a handful of caps for Spain's Under-21 team and will join a Napoli side that lies second in Serie A.

I had to laugh the other day when one of their transfer targets was Samaras.

No offence to Samaras, he is a handy striker, however in days gone by, Juventus would have been looking for someone of the ilk of Torres or Aguero or Pazzini.

They are in dire straits and I would say if it keeps going like this, Del neri will not see the end of the season.

Aquilani for 5mil over the next three years and I think Quagliarella is on a similar sort of deal. Motta won't stay, Pepe probably will. Barzagli comes in for 300k and Sorensen can be purchased for 150k.

Still need to buy players. Possibly a right-back and certainly a striker. Injuries have really cut the team down though. And I'm not talking about last season and before that where everything was muscle related (first thing Agnelli did when he came in was have a look at the Vinovo training center and see why there were so many muscle injuries last season. All doctors were sacked, turf re-layed, etc). Besides Iaquinta, every player injured gets done during the match - that you count as unlucky because in-game incidents can happen like that.

Delneri has not had a settled team to work with, certainly not in 2011. Quagliarella was a huge blow because of how well he was playing and because of his role within Delneri's system, same with De Ceglie when he went down. When the team is on, it is really good. The midfield is one of the best in the league but some players are struggling at the moment. We need a confidence boost, because you can tell from a match like we played against Genoa back a few months, compared to this morning, it is lacking. Players now need to show heart, show some grinta, and make it happen.

Only a few with Grinta in that team - Del Piero, Marchisio, Melo, Krasic, Chiellini and Buffon. The rest are there to fill gaps.

Napoli have boosted their hopes of winning the Scudetto after completing the purchase of Giuseppe Mascara.

The Italian fantasista has this evening put pen to paper on a Napoli contract after accepting a switch to the San Paolo.

Mascara has joined the Azzurri on a permanent basis after Catania accepted a bid of €1.2m for the attacking midfielder.

Mascara has signed until June 2013.
