I think right back suits her, she plays a similar role as Cassio for the men there. Has more of an effect from RB than up front. Running down the wing from the back. Lays some solid tackles and can create an attacking opportuinity here and there. And also been given the captains armband is impressive too, hopefully she can be held on to for future seasons with the Lady Reds.

Re: Gunning
Agree. The team seem to look for her a lot, and a lot of the play went through her. Got caught out a few times, especially in the second half, but I think that had more to do with those in front of her not being able to stop Sydney's quick transition into attack. Who ever is playing in the DM positon needs to cover her spot when she goes for a run, and stay there till she gets back.

Re: Gunning
I agree that she plays better at right back but I do believe the reason she was brought to Australia was because she was an amazing striker and scored x-number of goals in America and would provide Adelaide with their much needed fire power up front but I guess Barnett prefers to have a team full of imports and defenders, even though he already had three players who have played defense whilst representing Australia but I guess they're not good enough considering only one of them was offered a contract.
Whilst on the topic of players and their positions, Ruth Wallace plays much better in the midfield. It is where she played for SASI all season and furthermore, she was successful at converting her opportunities to goals as I do believe she topped the scoring for SASI. But Barnett wouldn't know that because he never watched those games and obviously doesn't watch his own games either considering Ruth was then benched (who knows for what reason) after playing a strong and competitive game in midfield last week. Oh and, please tell me the logic in putting on a defender when you are already three nil down? Was his goal not to concede any more goals like last time? Because I struggle to believe he actually wanted to score let alone win the game when he makes a substitution like that. Maybe he'd be better off playing eleven up front. I'm sure it couldn't do any more harm to the team.

Re: Gunning
I agree the SASI midfield with Ruth Wallace, Angela Fimmano and Meg Deakin was really quite good this year, they linked up very well and yes the result was that Ruth scored a lot of goals. Would be great to see those 3 combined with other youngsters like Chloe Green and experienced players like Papageorgiou etc in the midfield for an SA based W-League team in the near future (hopefully between AU and FFSA the situation can be resolved). This would provide more positional awareness in the defensive midfield area to help the defence, and also provide plenty of quality service to attacking players like Donna, Vic, Quiggs, and perhaps in the near future the likes of Caitlin Tucker, Vanessa Reid and Daniela DeBartolo too?rain maker wrote:I agree that she plays better at right back but I do believe the reason she was brought to Australia was because she was an amazing striker and scored x-number of goals in America and would provide Adelaide with their much needed fire power up front but I guess Barnett prefers to have a team full of imports and defenders, even though he already had three players who have played defense whilst representing Australia but I guess they're not good enough considering only one of them was offered a contract.

It's a shame Nicole Calder didn't get a spot in the AU defence, she has the right attitude and ability to make a positive difference in defence. Then there's Ash Faul and Ebony Weidenbach too.
The future is not so bleak as many would have you believe, it just needs the powers that be to get their act together as there is actually playing talent coming through the system.
Re: Gunning
The team looked good however a couple of players do not have the skill level.
What they need to do is settle on a squad (or the core of it) and allow them to play year in year out. Not put them together at year's end and expect Barnett to make a winning team.
If you want them to be paid then they become the property of Ad United…
Oh wait. Here come the cries of FOUL.
Clubs vs FFSA vs SASI vs Adelaide United vs WHAT THE PLAYERS NEED/WANT.
The old chestnut will raise its head. no one ever considers what the players want.
Clubs will whinge…We can’t afford to lose our good players.
SASI will whinge - We need those SASI players coz they need to make it to the Matildas.
FFSA will say we can’t afford to erode our comp. What F’en comp? Will 10 players make a huge difference?
Until we have a fair dinkum Lady Reds team, in a fair dinkum comp (which it is) that is void of influences from parties wanting their say then I am afraid we will lose our National Squad.
The Players interests have NEVER been considered in SA.

Re: Gunning
It should all be about what is best for the players and their development - some clubs get this, some don't.

how would you know what other clubs are doing??pvfc wrote:It should all be about what is best for the players and their development - some clubs get this, some don't.
and seeming you want to make such a statement, name the clubs that do 'get it' and the ones that 'dont'
Re: Gunning
Why do you react like that pinkyellowblue?
I'm not going to name clubs - don't need to. Anyone who has been around the game locally for a while will have their own ideas/opinions about this.
I'll eleaborate a little on my comment though - some clubs encourage their junior players to do things like STIC, development squads, State, SASI, etc even if it means some 'short term pain' for the club or even the risk of potentially losing the player to another club in the long term, whereas other clubs seem to discourage this.
Like SAD GAL said, all the relevant parties need to see the big picture and do what is best for the players and not necessarily for them as an organisation.

There has been an increase in the number of players, clubs, leagues and competitions since 1993; the number of players has increased from 10,400 to over 150,000 today.
Sport England’s Active People survey in 2008 highlighted that 260,000 women and 1.1 million girls play some form of football in England. There are 26 million females playing across the world, of which 4.1 million are playing affiliated football – this is a 54 per cent growth since the year 2000 (FIFA Big Count 2006).Assignment Help Over 20,000 females have successfully attained FA coaching qualifications (including 150 Level 3 - UEFA ‘B’ - coaches) and full-time women’s Football Development Officers (FDO) are now employed across the country. These 52 FDOs have had their contracts extended until the end of June 2012. Assignment Help Women’s football has a well-regarded player pathway and a strong Centre of Excellence infrastructure. The number of national players emerging from these Centres is evidence of their success.

Re: Gunning
Getting back to the subject, I can only judge Gunning from what Ive seen on TV,and the only problem with that is you cant always see what work players do off the ball ( running, chasing, marking / covering ) we dont see the whole picture.
She appears to read the play okay, has confidence on the ball, has put in a few good tackles, distribution is not bad. For what my opinion is worth,I would have her as one of the Central midfielders,as I would have her in the play as much as possible-to have her in defense or attack, she would be in and out of the game, she seems like she likes to involved in everything-Ashley seems fit enough, had to tell from tv coverage.
How long is she in South Australia for ?

If she is staying a while, we should do whatever we can to keep her in SA.Caretaker Coach wrote:Getting back to the subject, I can only judge Gunning from what Ive seen on TV,and the only problem with that is you cant always see what work players do off the ball ( running, chasing, marking / covering ) we dont see the whole picture.
