The Sunday Div 1 clubs are the ones throwing the biggest dollars around and other clubs are doing it to try to remain competitive otherwise every player who wanted money would only play in the Suday Division One league

Sometimes a team is better off to have players who really want to be there and 'Play for the Shirt' rather than those who rock up cos they are getting paid to.... we have never and will never pay players to play, regardless of what division we are in....

One more thing, cos it took me so long to stop laughing before my head actually could get itself around what you had just posted;I know that when my old man was playing in 1st Div Amateurs in the mid Nineties, he was on what most players in the Amateur League are on now. So to say that is getting out of hand is fucking bullshit... Been happening for years and will continue to happen for years. And if Gardens want the League this year, I would say they would have to break their all time salary record this year to keep a hold of the League... Lets see where you guys come when you tell Paul and Freddy they are playing for the love of the shirt this year...

well no it doesn't...... considering the committment though (our Super League side is training 4 times a week atm) i think it only fair that they do get paid. GARDENS pay there players yes! When I was chairman of the club it was $70.00 a win.
I understand times have changed & to be competetive you have to pay more as others FLORINA, DOWNS & GARDENS have & will continue to do!

Well well well after 30 odd years of suspision and innuendo about amateur players being paid it has finally been put in writing on a public forum by none other than an ex club President. Surely the SAASL committee must either come down on this with a sledge hammer or change the rules / constitution to allow these payments to be made legally and above board. The Genie is out.
