LADY REDS MAY FOLD
Article in todays papaer suggesting that the new owners of Ad. Utd may let go the Lady Reds as they are costing them $100,000 a season.
They believe it should be the responsbility of the FFSA to pick up the Lady Reds as part of the development of womens football in this state.
I tend to agree - why should Gerrard & Co. put money into a losing venture ?

Re: LADY REDS MAY FOLD
Why?
Simple....
-Help get the team heading in the right direction. Give them some $$ and it will make a world of difference. PAY YOUR PLAYERS!!!
-Grow womens football further in SA, without the Lady Reds, development in SA womens football has no future
-The Lady Reds are just as a part of Adelaide United FC as the men, same goes with youth.
-They will lose a large proportion of female members
-Plenty of money is poured into the mens team, why not the women?
-Clive Palmer at GCU is not exactly gaining big bucks, but he still backs the team.
-STOP BEING SO FKKN STINGY!!! Pull your fingers our Gerard and Griffen and save the Lady Reds

Re: LADY REDS MAY FOLD
It sucks that the team is getting canned but it's hardly surprising. The fact is no one cared enough to do anything about it at the club level. Barnett was a poison for that team and he still is - 2 wins in nearly 30 games with 80+ goals conceeded is disgraceful. Mike Barnett should be ashamed. And I think it's rubbish that the team won't at least get another coach before they get scrapped.Red-4-Life wrote:Why?

no other teams in the league pay their players and they seem to be going alright.

women's football managed fine without the w-league, in fact the premier league teams probably worked better. SASI did a fine job developing the talent
-The Lady Reds are just as a part of Adelaide United FC as the men, same goes with youth.
now this is the problem..the new owners can't be blamed for scrapping the lady reds as a waste of money..the problem is the football department of united...the director of football should be all over this, like he would be if it was the mens team, but he's not...barnett needed to go a long time ago...too little too late.
-They will lose a large proportion of female members
i don't really think they will...i'd doubt many people that attend w-league games would be members anyway
-Plenty of money is poured into the mens team, why not the women?
because a lot more money is made by the mens team..the new owners are business men
-Clive Palmer at GCU is not exactly gaining big bucks, but he still backs the team.
there is no GCU womens team and i think he would say no to the idea of having one
-STOP BEING SO FKKN STINGY!!! Pull your fingers our Gerard and Griffen and save the Lady Reds
If the team were a success and more fans cared about them as much as I do as well as other members of this forum, then we'd have a strong case for being angry about them getting canned.
The new owners can hardly be blamed. Nor can the players. The blame solely lies with Mike Barnett and the Footballing department of Adelaide United, who have let down this contingent of fans - however small or expensive we may be.

Barnett's poor coaching record can again be the big reason as to why this is happening, if the team were winning under him we wouldnt even be talking about this crap.

Well the Lady Reds arent folding...But the club does have the money to retain the team. Look how much money is spent on the men

from a business point of view, why wld u budget/spend more cash on them? they do not create profit, they are currently unsuccessful and i can 100% see why AU wd consider the cut.
why bet on the losing horse?

Re: LADY REDS MAY FOLD
Will FFSA pick up the cost next year? If I was AU, I would DEFINITELY scrap the Lady Reds since nobody gives a flying f*C* about them. They don't make money, are an embarassement for the club and cost too much. AU shouldn't have to worry about them. FFSA instead should find a good way to run the team - here's a tip:
1 only SA players (save on airfares etc)
2 a development plan that goes further than one season
3 get a coach who knows what he/she is doing with the girls! But please not one of the "SAWSA Old Mates" - some experienced, knowledgeable and successful local women's coach who the players will listen to and want to play for.
4 Pay the coach only what can actually be afforded.
5 work out a system that INTEGRATES the work of SASI into the WLeague.
If FFSA want to, they have the opportunity to do well for the women's now...unfortunately for what I saw since it took over the girls' game though...they couldn't care less either.

Re: LADY REDS MAY FOLD
Well said Bad Egg….Somehow I think you aren’t the Bad Egg.
All points covered are excellent however, the integration of SASI and W-League will not happen (although it should). Once SASI are involved they will want their scholarship players involved (as was the case with the defunct National League) and will want to rule the roost. Its understandable however, it will not function.
IN SA we do not have a long term view of the future and only make knee jerk decisions that are pursued by a minority.
Everyone works in separate silos and NO ONE HAS EVER PUT THE PLAYER FIRST. N E V E R

Re: LADY REDS MAY FOLD
From Sportsbuzz:
Over the border to the west, you might be forgiven for thinking there’s a drama with the Adelaide United women’s team.
No, not that they’re winless in 24 games or cast adrift at the bottom of the W-League, but that they may not come back next year. At least that’s how the latest comments from Adelaide United chairman Greg Griffin are being received. But look closely, there is a subtle change here that does not mean the end of the Lady Reds (although the publicity does not hurt at all). A number of W-League teams are administered by their home state federation and not the A-League administration. In Victoria, it’s the FFV and not the Melbourne Victory that operates the W-League team. Same goes for Northern NSW Football and the Newcastle Jets. Same for Football WA and the Perth Glory.
Given Adelaide United’s offices are all of 50m from Football Federation SA’s, under the grandstand at Hindmarsh Stadium, it’s not the administrative body that matters, but the personnel. Who foots the bill and administrative costs? It might be a forecast cost of $100,000 for Adelaide United’s A-League administration, but that’s flying in half-a-dozen non-SA players each game. Will the team be handed to an administrator as extra, unpaid work on top of what they already do? Will it be lumped on administrative staff that don’t care for the game (read, “aren’t football people”)? Will the women’s team be seen as so much of a burden that FFSA would rather dodge it altogether and say “fold the team”? One wonders what the answers would be if you asked those questions inside any of the W-League administrative bodies, A-League or state federation-attached, right now.
I went to Adelaide earlier this year to commentate Melbourne’s away W-League game, and it was a slick match-day operation as part of the curtain raiser to the A-League game between the Reds and Gold Coast United. Did more fans turn up to the Adelaide-Melbourne curtain-raiser than this past weekend’s Melbourne-Perth game? Yes. Was there more cheering for the home team in Adelaide even though it was on the end of a 4-0 beat-down? Yes. Like so many beleaguered A-League franchises, the nucleus is there. The as-yet unrealised potential is there.
Ron Reed’s piece in the Sunday Herald Sun was welcome publicity for the W-League, albeit belated given Victory can’t immediately profit from the exposure as its next home game in Melbourne isn’t until January 29. The TV figures are a concern, and let’s not kid ourselves, ABC TV treats women’s football pretty well with the 3pm Saturday timeslot (especially given ABC Radio seems to disregard it in favour of updates from the WNBL and women’s national cricket league). The participation figures have been good (particularly good in Victoria) since the mid-2000s. It’s a matter of converting participants to fans – some sports know how to do this, others are still looking for the right way.
The problem, as ever with football in this country, is a lack of communication. It could be buck-passing between state federations, the FFA and A-League administration. It could be a lack of communication between employees within any of those three different bodies. Or it could be a lack of communication with the outside world, be it advertising to fans, or justifying becoming a regular part of the sports news cycle (with any company other than loyal follower, Sportal). The latter certainly isn’t easy – In trying to promote this website’s W-League live streaming this season, a number of brick walls have been hit trying to get something as small and unobtrusive as a web story up on a mainstream news site in the home town of either competing team.
An Australia-wide league in any sport in this country is difficult to run, regardless of the money at hand or administrative talent in charge. It’s a damn sight harder when the administrators of one or more teams in said league either don’t care, see the team they’re running as a burden, or both.

Perhaps contact the club and offer your services in some capacity for free if you are wanting some recognition, because that is no different to what any other supporter around the world doesRed-4-Life wrote:Promote the team, try to get people to games, much more but yous dont seem to care so i wont go into depth
