Essien Red Card
he didnt even connect with the player, i know it was two footed but is this a straight red??
an appeal should surely avoid getting banned for 3 weeks

he didnt even connect with the player if you look at this replay, it shouldnt be a 3 game ban with an appeal, there was no intent to hurt the other player

Show me in the LOTG where it says that a dangerous tackle should be judged on intent. It was dangerous, it's a red card. Intent is irrelevant.

We'll all just hope Dempsey pulls off another Oscar winning performance and gets a Spuds player sent off the next time they meet Fulham.

Re: Essien Red Card
+1 to it was a red card.
I love Michael Essien and reckon he is a great player, (and seems to be a great guy from all the interviews I've seen) but... you cant do 2 footed jumping stamp tackles. It is always a straight red card except when the referees don't see it. This is outlawed because of how dangerous they are and should continue to be punished.
These challenges if they get the leg, will usually break it or at least the player will go off injured. I've had my leg broken by a bad challenge and you miss a lot more than 3 weeks I can tell you.

Again, it's not relevant if it's deemed to be dangerous.Chelsea4thewin wrote:he got the ball?
Perhaps you should learn the laws of the game you watch. Another plastic Chav fan.

Re: Essien Red Card
So any serious foul can be deemed a send off, a studs up 2 footer is generally punishable by send off.Sending-off offences (red card)
A player, substitute or substituted player is dismissed from the field of play and shown the red card if he/she commits any of the following offences:
- Serious foul play
- Violent conduct
- Use of abusive language and/or gestures
- Spitting at an opponent or any other person
- Denying the opposing team a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper inside his/her own penalty area)
- Denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player’s goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick (known as a professional foul)
- Receiving a second caution (yellow card) in the same match
A player, substitute or substituted player who has been dismissed and shown the red card may not remain on or in the vicinity of the field of play or the technical area. Generally, a player who has been dismissed will be expected to proceed to the dressing room immediately.

Dude, of course Ancellotti will contest it, he obviously wants Essien available. But tackles like this ARE definitley a 3 game ban - you cant go in tackling people like youre going down a waterslide.Chelsea4thewin wrote:yeah i do think its a red just not sure on the 3 ban punishment

Re: Essien Red Card
from my understanding of the laws of the game, that should have only been a yellow.
IF he'd made contact then it's a red though.

The definition is "kicks or intends to kick" the argument would be that if Essien dives in for the ball and makes no contact then he hasn't kicked him or INTENDED to kick him, he is guilty of dangeous play but not serious foul play.
Re: Essien Red Card
I think it deserved a yellow. Slightly harsh that it was a straight red card but not surprising as it was;
1) in a stamping downward motion
2) studs facing the leg with both feet together
Intent is irrelevant.

The difference being? Somewhat less than zero imo.
Contact with either ball or player is irrelevant, intent is irrelevant (not that anyone bar the tackler can know). If you make a dangerous tackle that surely is serious foul play.
Where we probably do agree is that there is way too much inconsistency between referees.

true but ref deemed it reckless and dangerous enough to give straight red, appeal may only get 2 gamesGod is an Englishman wrote:3 games for the straight red, 1 game for a 2nd yellow though.DOC wrote:remember essien was on a yellow already, i know the ref showed straight red, but he was off either wayThe Smiff wrote:I think it deserved a yellow.
