Football Federation SA supporting Women’s Football
Football Federation SA in conjunction with Adelaide United is pleased to announce the arrival of American import, Ashleigh Gunning to the Adelaide United W-League team for season 2010/11. Funded through the Women’s Special Purpose Fund set up by the deregistration of the South Australian Women’s Soccer Association Ashleigh will not only contribute to Adelaide United on the field but will promote the sport in local clubs and schools.
“The Football Federation is delighted to be working with Adelaide United to bring international players to Adelaide. The USA is renowned for being world leaders in women’s football and a player of Ashleigh’s calibre will not only strengthen the Adelaide United team on the park but will also assist to lift the profile of football for girls’ and women in South Australia” said Michael Carter, Chief Executive Officer of Football Federation SA.
Adelaide United W-League coach Michael Barnett stated that ““We’ve seen video footage of her in action and are very much looking forward to her having an impact not only for our team but doing well in the W-League this season.”
Ashleigh Gunning arrived on Thursday after a lengthy flight for the USA and was pleased to be here stating that “If I could play in any country in the world Australia was my first choice.” When queried about her versatile playing ability and favourite position Ashleigh said “I like to play where I can contribute the most, wherever the team needs me.”
Football Federation SA is offering the opportunity for all girls and women’s affiliated clubs to host free clinics and club visits with Ashleigh Gunning. Please contact FFSA for further information
