There is no bridging program in SA to ensure the girls come from a solid base. Clubs do not offer any high level of training because of the structure of the league.
We have discussed before about the absurdity of young girls being thrust into the Prems. The lower grades would be the development of the players and where there is a strong comp to develop in. There isn’t such a structure. Just because someone is in Prems does not make them a good player and as a result Prems is a poor comp.
Can and will this change? No of course not. And we will still have the poor level of skills base that exists.
For me, if I were a girl, I would stay in a boys comp until late as possible. The junior girls comp is no better than a school comp. Kick and a giggle.
So fair is fair..SASI has faults and the coach needs to go. However, will it change too much? Not really because the players coming into SASI do not have a decent base and the training is dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. I have witnessed training sessions where players were being taught to do tricks (high level skills) on the ball. It was hilarious and annoying at the same time. My thoughts were “What the F are players doing this at this level, this should already be something they could do.”
Interesting post Sad Gal. The reason i made the comment, i thought there was something wrong within the SASI system a while back. There was a young player who came out of retirement for a couple of games to help my daughter's team out,as they are good friends,her parents and I get on well, and we were struggling for players. This young player use to be in the SASI system / State team etc,gave the game away when all the fun went out of it. The week after this girl played her first game,she received a phone call from the SASI coach,inviting her to a training session. She said no,just playing for fun, and the coach allegedly said, "doesnt matter ,you are not that good anyway " so she asked , " why did you, ring me ? " the coach allegedly hung up.
Anyone who knows this player,knows she is not one to make things up,needless to say was extremely upset and disappointed.
I thought then, how do these people stay in their jobs.......apparently that coach is still there.Say no more.
