The Phoenix Cup 2010
The Modbury Jets Amateur Football Club are again hosting a football tournament (Phoenix Cup) at Ladywood Reserve (Corner of Milne & Ladywood Roads, Modbury North) on Saturday 23rd October commencing at 10:00am and ending at 4:00pm.
The tournament is being run with express purpose of offering people with disabilities an opportunity to participate in the World Game. No real outlets exist in the local community for the disabled to play football and is with this in mind that we felt the need to provide the opportunity for them to experience all that the game has to offer, hence our organisation of this tournament.
The Mayor of Tea Tree Gully (Miriam Smith) has accepted our invitation to present both the trophy to the winning team and medallions to each participant on the day.
We are now in the process of getting the local media (messenger, advertiser, radio) involved hence my e-mail on this forum as it would be good to see people come out and support the tournament and more importantly the participants.
Thank you,
Ryan Mogg

Have teams already been selected.....?
I work in Disability Employment, and would have a couple of lads who would be interested.

If it's half as good as last year it'll be a cracker. I'll be there early to help set up. Beyond India catering too. Can't wait.

Last year's cup was the best day of football I have ever been involved with. Magic day!Rhino wrote:If it's half as good as last year it'll be a cracker. I'll be there early to help set up. Beyond India catering too. Can't wait.
Dixie Dean was hailed by another Mersey legend, Liverpool’s Bill Shankly, as “belonging in the company of the supremely great, like Beethoven, Rembrandt and Shakespeare.”
60 goals, never to be equalled.

Unfortunately the teams have been selected for this year but I hope it will be bigger and better again next year. I will keep you in mind and make contact with you when we are making contact with disabled orginisations to express their interest next year.

Re: The Phoenix Cup 2010
A few quality goals scored but the best part of the day was when a stray balloon took down the whole of the power grid for the surrounding suburbs- even the nearby traffic lights were out.
Congrats to Gabon and co. for putting on such a worthy tournament.
