yes i thought so , but its only hear say from a few, would like ot know what happened sounds odd.
Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
the squad selected was clearly not the strongest....there was deffenitely 15 better players that couldve been picked....preparations leading up to the tournament wasnt the best either as it rained for weeks and the grounds were terrible....then a few weeks before the tournament most teams and players were involved in catch up games...

that's only one of the rumours from sources close to the camp.
more reports confirm the coach was told mid way during the comp that his tenure was over - great for player morale??
the coach did nothing wrong, save that he trained the team over the year to play the FFA "proper way". maybe that was the problem as its been reported back that while some states played the FFA way, it was only when it suited them and given the results it appears they were not penalised??
just some other observations, the u14 Team finished last on 3 points (3 draws and 2 losses). the u15 team finished second to last on 4 pts (3 losses 1 draw and 1 win). yet somehow the u15's were able to get 5 players chosen in the All Stars and the 14's none?? is 1 point difference between last and second to last worth 5 v 0?
talk is that one 14 kid should have got in - maybe another?
the all stars were apparently picked by the end of day 2 of the comp?
the NSW team is part of the NSW Fedn Project 22. it's geared up for the 2022 World Cup when this group will be prime. leading into this tournament they played over 50 games together!
SA was lucky enough to get maybe 1/2 dozen trial games in?? does the FFSA even know what the word "project" means?
FFSA/clubs need to be prepared to release players or not make it difficult for them once selected for State duties to give these kids any chance of a solid performance at these tournaments. what better way for a club to promote its junior development by being able to boast kids in the State teams.
most clubs had catch up games interfering with State this season and the pressure the clubs put on the players to play was not in the interest of the player.
something wanting in this State and it ain't the level of talented players in these age groups.
anyway, youll go off and think sour grapes, etc and that would be true if our boys were playing on an even playing field with the other states.
no doubt those that were there might clear up some of the things I've heard.
Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
Tony Vidmar was coach of the 15s. One of the parents told me he was in the selector's box on a regular basis between games. So 5 of his players get selected. Same thing apparently happened with his institute team at the start of the year. SASI finished 2nd but received extra bonus points to move them up to 1st and then received all of the individual awards. Obviously Tony is using his connections. Is it a good thing or not? More SA kids get recognition but is it received for the right reasons?
Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
Good way to detract from the 5 boy's efforts, in suggesting they were selected purely due to Vidmars influence. The negativety in this State astounds me.lb wrote:Tony Vidmar was coach of the 15s. Totally agree. The Adelaide City boys did.

I've considered lb's post. Reading between the lines, it may have come across like you said Maxi, but let's break it down and see if we can make some sense out of it.maximum wrote:Good way to detract from the 5 boy's efforts, in suggesting they were selected purely due to Vidmars influence. the purpose of the Comp is for the FFA to "identify talent". this also includes, in simple terms, implementing the formation and style of play the FFA wants junior teams from State down to clubs to adopt.
so we have the 15 state team which lost 3 out of the 5 matches picking up a win and draw along the way. the 14's only lost 2 with 3 draws.
the 15's finished second to last. the 14s bottom. reading an earlier post, the two teams were separated by one point.
now to me that suggests that neither team had a great comp. i believe the squad is 16 - this includes 2 gks?
so 5 out of 14 field players made the All Stars - i.e. just 2 short of 1/2 the field players. overall that's a pretty big % for a team that finished second to last.
taking nothing away from the 5 lads, in fact I know them very well and they are all talented footballers, how can a squad that finished second to last in its group manage to have 5 nominations against a team which finished last in its group only a point less than the 15's and not even get one nomination?
imagine if the 15's finished top of their group then we'd be looking at the whole team being nominated
so in defence of the 14's who didn't get a look in even though they lost less games than the 15's, I say to you chin up boys because the maths just doesn't add up.
Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
Neither played Under 15's in the league this year. They played Under 19's. One played in the Man Utd Cup only.Zeljko Jurin wrote:Sorry, but I can see 2 kids names from Pararabbit wrote:Make that the top 3 teams.......you work it out
Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
does it matter which team they play in they are still both Para players. Presumably that means they are the best two Para Hills players in the Under 15s age group and the reason why they are playing above there age at club level.rabbit wrote:Neither played Under 15's in the league this year. Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
No it doesn't matter at all. Certainly not to me. I was merely pointing out that no players from the Top 3 teams in the Under 15's comp got in, not just the top 2 teams as stated by someone else. You live up to your user name don't you?

Question... was the style of play different between the 14's and the 15's?
Could it have been this that determined selection rather than results

Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
there were several players in the 14's who played above their age at club level. the same boys played in the Man Unt Cup in Melb for Campbelltown and I think the 14s captain plays in the 16s at Birks. he was also in the U13 Australian team last year.Zeljko Jurin wrote:Question, here is the table for the u15As, yet NO Campbelltown (SA Man Utd Cup winners too) or Birkalla players ???Stitch This wrote:FULL SQUAD

Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
the coach knew midway thro the tourney that his time was up,but for no other reason than the ffa want all the state 14s and 15s teams being coached by ntc coaches ie sasi ,ais etc.the u14s were only one goal and 25 mins away from second place, not a bad effort for a team that leading up to the biggest tournament of their short careers they had no where to train,,there usually training place of underdale high school was taken away by there own federation so that they could play ladies football on it,,there were teams called OUT playing on their training pitch, so they had to train indoors, they also had their(argueably)best player took from them two weeks out and put into the 15s cause they had an injured player, their team manager was phoning every tom, dick and harry begging for a game, the only downside was they had to play away cause they had no home ground,it seems to me that those at the top of the tree would rather push forward ladies football rather than give their kids state team a fighting chance
Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
We were in Coffs Harbour and can report that the U14s held their own against all opposition and their only problem was putting the ball in the back of the net. For the first two games their best striker, Mark Marino was injured - as well as another player, Jacob Handley. The team also big time missed Ben Warland who was moved to the U15 (BTW he did brilliantly there 'cos he is quality). In spite of all this, and a couple of other injuries during the tournament, the team played good football - & according to the curriculum!!
Against the benchmark team, NSW Metro, the U14 had 4 guilt edge chances to score - and could have been 4-0 up at half time. But that's football, aye - went into the change rooms 0-0!! Against the team from QLD Metro (the team that got 8 players in the All Stars) they easily could have won - but instead got a draw.
The boys have come home pretty down - and that shouldn't be the case. We need to back them, encourage them!

Re: Good luck to both U14 & U15 State Teams
The 15's state team played excellent football during the tornament, they got robbed against victoria and NSW and clearly controled them 2 matches, the only game they struggled against was WA and they had 3 AIS players. 5 S.A. players made the all star team, it doesnt matter about the results it matters about the quality of football being played, and i have to say that S.A. under 14's and 15's played excellent football throughout the tornament
