Coaches for 2011
Same topic from Federation Forum, any coaching changes that "should" or "are" happening for any clubs for next year?

I highly suspect a current div 3 coach to be high on the list of candidates.legga wrote:Heard the Downs is looking for a coach...![]()

legga obviously from the eye roll your either not happy with the appointment in the first place or not happy there not giving him another year & changing coach again?legga wrote:Heard the Downs is looking for a coach...![]()
I heard that the decission to not re-appoint Bert was met with mixed reactions with most Downs members not happy & confused about the decission Cup Finalists & Runner Up in the League? and a Downs Champion to boot? I must say I was shocked & scrached my head at the time.
Most would think now that it was the wrong decission as your club has gone backwards from what it achived under Bert.
I believe if your preparded to give a 1st time coach a chance you should be preparded to give him a minimum of 2 yrs.
I'm really pleased that Cooky was given the 3rd year by our Club & that the decission has been Rewarded.
And dont worry Cooky had his knochers & plenty of knives in the back over his 3yr jouney but the Club backed him & the rest is HISTORY...

Re: Coaches for 2011
Lots of things happened behind the scenes with Bert and he decided it was best to walk away and Florina were more than happy to have him. Tony has done a good job and was able to attract some good players in Cartwright, Malia and Morrison and keep the majority of the rest of the group.nuggett69 wrote:legga obviously from the eye roll your either not happy with the appointment in the first place or not happy there not giving him another year & changing coach again?legga wrote:Heard the Downs is looking for a coach...![]()

On a side note, do clubs acutally give coaches contracts? If not, how could you give someone a two year deal? Besides the commitee appoint the coach and they can change often so again, if there was no contract, how could a club keep to a two year deal?

Re: Coaches for 2011
If I said to Simo yes, you can have two years but next year I wasn't President, then I can't keep my word if a new comittee wants a new coach.nuggett69 wrote:Are you serious Jay, its called your word.

Simo is on the committee anyway so he picks himself

I was more interested to see if clubs actually put a contract to coaches or do they still do the handshake thing like what we do.

Re: Coaches for 2011
Nah you are reading too much into the eye roll knew a little while ago the big man may not go on due to work and family commitments but as you say its is good to have a coach stick around for a few years to build a squad. I am sure it will open the door for someone else to have a go. So my dear Mr Nugget watch this space, I am sure Mr Marooned has already had the feelers out word has it he was seen visiting the north eastern suburbs having coffee and a chat..nuggett69 wrote:legga obviously from the eye roll your either not happy with the appointment in the first place or not happy there not giving him another year & changing coach again?legga wrote:Heard the Downs is looking for a coach...![]()

Re: Coaches for 2011
Westervelt to West Adelaide with Brooks & Fuda is doing the rounds,
Rumour has it as well that Manker got the flick from the Pirates as Assistant Coach for trying to poach players for Florina for next year...
I would think either Fuda, Brooks or Manker to coach Florina next year...
Motts is definatley 100% staying at Salisbury...

Re: Coaches for 2011
Couldn't see Simo heading there. Lots of Amateur clubs have tried to poach him in the last 3-5 years. I can think of at least 3 that have sat down to make him an offer and all were willing to pay him more not to mention all the FFSA clubs that ring him up. His time will come to an end one day but I'm pretty sure there is another season or two left in him at Ingle Farm.nuggett69 wrote:Jay maybe Simmo to the Downs, he might be looking for a bit of success before he finishes. Big rumour that a certain coach of a certain Saturday Division 1 club is going to the Feds.
