Westies Year
Extremely dissapointing and frustrating year to be a westies supporter. Only a shadow of the side that were vying for the championship only two years ago. In spite of all the doubting thomas's that the boy's who came from the lions would only hang around while Dave Beaman was there they are going to stick by the club (which they love) and help return it to div 1 . Very hard year with sean only available for the last half. Losing mick harris and his brother russel for the year . Tim Foureur has made a very good comeback from a knee reco since about round 8. Other players have dropped off this year and newish players have still failed to have any input. As for the coach in my oppinion he has had no idea all year and has n't even bothered to show back at the club tonight, very poor on his part. Lookin forward to getting a couple of previously good players back to the club next year. Good core of players this year but depth was a severe problem as was selection and the mystifying coaching this year. Everything is not laid on a plate in amateur league and it takes players with a bit of guts to have a good hard look at themselves and realize if you were one of the ones who would n,t lay the hard tackles or win the headers you better get your head out of your arse over the summer or dont bother next year. Here's looking forward to div 2 next year and taking it by the balls and straight back up the year after.

Blind Freddy could have told you that your coach was going to be a nightmare after the first game of the Mayor's Cup. Why wasn't anything done about it and how the hell did he get appointed in the first place?sprogget wrote:Extremely dissapointing and frustrating year to be a westies supporter. Re: Westies Year
having played u guys a couple of weeks ago. i thought after that gameit would be sad to see u guys go down ,
but not the coach he shouldve worried more about coaching instead of bagging the ref and our players..hope
to see the club back in div 1 soon but leave the coach behind..we only had one game to enjoy your great new clubrooms...

Sadly Westies were simply not good enough this year.
Good bunch of lads but have slipped away some what in the last couple of years.

Re: Westies Year
Sure the coach has to take the blame for westies poor year but the people that apointed him in the first place need to have a look at the way they select future coaches and try to lure quality people to the soccer dept. For to long the club seems to be unwilling to spend coin on recruiting the best local players as have gardens, forina etc and i think they need a younger coach that has the balls to make the hard calls and get this club back to the first div.

Fairly sure you can not get relegated even if you spend $0 on wagesfacepoker wrote:Sure the coach has to take the blame for westies poor year but the people that apointed him in the first place need to have a look at the way they select future coaches and try to lure quality people to the soccer dept. For to long the club seems to be unwilling to spend coin on recruiting the best local players as have gardens, forina etc and i think they need a younger coach that has the balls to make the hard calls and get this club back to the first div.

They get $50 per week. That's not too bad. It's not so much about the money but more about the coach and the contacts he has.facepoker wrote:Sure the coach has to take the blame for westies poor year but the people that apointed him in the first place need to have a look at the way they select future coaches and try to lure quality people to the soccer dept. For to long the club seems to be unwilling to spend coin on recruiting the best local players as have gardens, forina etc and i think they need a younger coach that has the balls to make the hard calls and get this club back to the first div.

Re: Westies Year
They have spent money but in wrong areas, judging by the afore mentioned comment they have spent close on $13k on wages, that by no stretch of the imagination is minimal money, they should have targetted some players who would make a difference to their results, as opposed to the club changing its princples under last years coach, to ensure "his" boys got weekly payments as opposed to paying incentives based on performance.Jay Not Walking wrote:They get $50 per week. They haven't had a top line goalscorer since Icavino (sp)
and since Eggers left, no one who can put their foot on the ball
needed to spend some money in those 2 areas
you can get away with not scoring many goals if you have a great defence but only for so long
and if the defensive side of things falls away (this year) then its curtains

Re: Westies Year
Losing Griffiths would have had a massive impact,
Having been relegated is it refelctive of the year that the Best and Fairest was won by a player who Never trained this year?

Westies will get a few guys back next year and will jump straight back up either next year or the year after like Easties. They just need a bit more depth and not have the run of injuries that they did.

Re: Westies Year
In all my years in amateur soccer,I have found division two is the hardest, to stay in if you win promotion from 3rd division, and most difficult to finish top if you have just been relegated from division one. Half the clubs are fighting hard to avoid relegation, the other half are fighting hard to win promotion.
