Why wasn't it played on the original date?Shaken not Stirred 2 wrote:Why the league chose a week night to play the game, only they know, so go and complain to them.

Perfectly understandable that they couldn't make the game tonight and fair enough but to not two games played and hand the Woodpeckers a spot so that they didn't have to play a game - that my friend is piss weak. The league actually chose two Sundays for the Farm to play the games. Please feel free to offer more excuses though.Shaken not Stirred 2 wrote:I tell you now the Gardens will not be handed any trophy this Sunday.Trimboli wrote:That's p1ss weak by the Farm and I'm sure the Woodpecker boys feel that getting to the semis only playing two games when everyone else has played four is a bit hollow.
If that is the way the Farm roll over then I guess the title should just be given to Gardens now - how would Florina feel about that?
Before you point the finger how about you understand the circumstances. A lot of the over 35 lads run there own business, live in the country and it is too far to go after work, work night shift or have family commitments so they can't make any week night let alone tomorrow night. Hence why they play O/35's where they do not have to train and can play on weekends. It was disappointing to get the phone call last night but I do know Lee tried to get 11 and we went through every player to scratch 11 but some players just could not get down to Grange for the game. Why the league chose a week night to play the game, only they know, so go and complain to them.

Pfft... the format for the cup was a joke from the start.

woodpeckers get through having played and won one game???? downs won 3 out of 4. not having a pop at farm this was always a chance when a team knows it cant make the semi's, but to be drawn against the same side twice in a 4 game competition was a joke and makes the whole tournament a farce. league should have had a downs / peckers play-off.

your not kidding me , shocking way to run a cup style comp, what cup has a league game that doubles for the cup result as well as points in the leagueCertified Nut Case wrote:Pfft... the format for the cup was a joke from the start.

No it wouldn't. It's not the Woodpeckers' fault the team they were drawn to play weren't able/prepared to do so.ADEL.GOONERS wrote:that would be the fair thing to do

Agreed it's not the fault of Woodpeckers - and I don't think this has been brought into question - but at least if they played the Downs they would have played more than two games and if they beat the Downs for that spot then no one could question the validity of their qualification by default.Evergreen wrote:No it wouldn't. My understanding is that the Woodpeckers have been inconvenienced as well by the Farm's no show but I doubt the league will do anything about it.
Re: O35 Cup Semi Finals Draw Tonight
Maybe a point to take to the next C of C meeting. Wouldn't be fair for a club to gain a spot in the semi's after two forfeits to the same club. Not peckers fault just a bad format for the cup.
Re: O35 Cup Semi Finals Draw Tonight
You guys really make a big deal over a bunch of guys who play in a league pretty much setup as a social kick around. Poor form by the Farm O/35's players, yes, but at the end of the day does it really matter, Nope.

Re: O35 Cup Semi Finals Draw Tonight
We are disappointed with how this turned out. Ultimately though we had only 8 players available for the game so we could of played it, got thrashed and the same result would of stood.
Unfortunately we lost a few guys from last years squad when we had a out 18 players. This year we have about 15 and most of those guys are into their late 40's, 50's, and at least 1 is 60 years old. We have been decimated with injuries this year and after sundays's game, we copped a few more and had people who couldn't play due to work commitments. There has been more than one occasion this year when we didn't have the full 11 to play a game in the over 35's.
I feel for the downs as it is a terrible way to miss out on a semi but it wasn't to sabotage them or out of laziness, it was a case of running out of players. It something that we need to look at next year. We also shot ourselves in the foot by asking the league to come up with new rules to prevent what happened when we played in the cup semi last year by having a team stacked with younger players who hadn't really played O35's.
The format of the cup was also poor and hopefully the league won't go down that path again. We have to cop the criticism thrown at us as we deserve it but I can assure all the downs players, had the game gone ahead, we would of been thumped. I personally am not happy about it as it makes us look bad but there really isn't anything we can do about it.

So how far do you take that argument then?Ollo Ollo wrote:You guys really make a big deal over a bunch of guys who play in a league pretty much setup as a social kick around. Poor form by the Farm O/35's players, yes, but at the end of the day does it really matter, Nope.
In the grand scheme of football the A League is little more than a pimple on the arse of world football - does that make it less important - I am sure it doesn't to the people who follow it and play in it you numpty - very poor argument.
Certainly there are more important things in the world than football.
