Parents Behaviour at Junior Games

Post by Suffolk 'N' Good »

I witnessed a very poor display yesterday from parents of the U/12 Salisbury United Football Club verbally abusing a young player from the Raiders Football Club. You SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELFS,as this type of behaviour from grown ups is inexpliable!!!! :x

Obviously you dont have any morals or decorum in the way you conduct youeself, whilst supposedly supporting your kids and the club they play for!

Had a parent on the weekend tell his child to physically abuse his opponent while play had stopped for a throw in, the childs coach did not hear it as he was off fetching the ball but I along with a few other parents certainly heard it.

The child did as his father asked and was subsequently sent off. Makes you realise where some of the feral amatuers come from.

Its priceless isnt it! Most parents whinge coz they never get time away from the kids and then the moment they do get a chance to pull up a deck chair, have a coffee, relax and enjoy watching their child having a kick and they choose to go Bunta at every thing that moves on 2 legs(Large & small).

In the above cases where is the teams ground marshall? It is his/her job to control his/her own supporters.

Amazing how most parents are experts on the game but as soon as help is required they all go MIA.

Unfortunately I witnessed something similar at Salisbury a few weeks ago. A group of Salisbury supporters directing unnecessary comments toward opposing players (13-14 year olds)and also at the opposing linesman, not to mention the chap behind the goal yelling at the ref that he was an eff'in clown.
This is something that the club needs to deal with sooner rather than later.

My young Lads team played out at Salisbury not long ago and a group of our Parents were told by the Salisbury folk that it would be "in their best interests" not to sit in the grandstand , and that opposition supporters should stand behind the fence on the other side of the ground. This was before the game even started.
The message wasn't delivered with a smile either.

To assist in creating a positive environment for everyone to be involved in games conducted by

c. Discrimination and harassing behaviour
d. Violent conduct of any nature
2. In the first instance if a match official is experiencing any foul and abusive language
or verbal ridicule, they may approach a club official and/or ground steward to address the issue.
3. If the behaviour continues, the match official shall again approach a club official and/or ground
steward and request the matter to be resolved prior to recommencing the game. If the match
official continues to experience foul and abusive language

or verbal ridicule the game will be terminated. On terminating the game, the match official is to
submit a report into the FFSA within 48 hours outlining the reasons for terminating the game
and also identifying the offending club players, officials and/or spectators.
4. On receipt of the report, FFSA will investigate the incident. If it is found that the game has been
abandoned due to the use of foul and abusive language and/or verbal ridicule, the offending
club will forfeit the game 3 goals to nil and will also be fined the forfeit fine as outlined in the
relevant competition rules and regulations.

(i) fail, refuse or neglect to observe and comply with the rules, regulations and bylaws
or any directions of the FFSA,

I wasn't going to reply but here goes

I have to ask the question of go the blues, was there a particular incident that sparked this poor display?

Was it frustration by a regular Raiders under 13 player playing in a under 12 match to cause a retaliation by the Salisbury player, the whole incident seen by the honest Raiders parent?

Or was it much more than this?

You wouldn't happen to be the parent of the U13 Raiders player would you? If you were I can understand your frustration at having to dash off before the game to try and retrieve his player ID card!

And you would have made sure that the match official wasn't subjected to a tirade of verbal abuse and ridicule as he left the ground and was escorted to his car by a Salisbury official because he felt safer, wouldn't you?

I've been told that Raiders have been dropping 2-3 U13's back to the 12's over recent weeks after playing in the 13's, but if they are elegible , its their call.
Mind you if I was a parent of an existing U12 and had reduced playing time I wouldn't be too happy.
If they are the correct age which I believe they are, then they are entitled to do it under the rules.
Maybe they are short or have injuries?

Correct, they are eligible

And I think it's more because u12's are short on players.
And "I think" it has only been approx 1 player each week

And I have said it before, and I'll say it again, "you have good AND bad where ever you go", no need to make a topic of it on a public forum :(

I am sure ALL clubs have them, angels and ferels..........including us !!

Yes i agree with you Zeljko there are good and bad in all clubs who support their club's, but my point is why did the Salisbury official with his FFSA VISY shirt on standing next to the coach, instead of supervising the parents on the other side of the pitch verbally abusing the young player from Raiders are they supposed to keep parents in check!!!!!!

This poor kid i believe after the game was quite traumatised by all this after the game, with this abusive vial vulgar language being used.

Just goes to show some people dont have the moral standards on how to act when out in public, youre just giving your club a bad name with this type of behaviour and you are defenitely not setting good moral standards to you kids for the future.!!!!!!!!!!

This is actually not as funny as it sounds...ugly parents can do untold damage not just to their child but to the team as a whole! It is often in the best interest of the team to not have that sort of behaviour around as it can destabilse everyone. Parents should carefully consider whether or not their little Johnny is good enough to outway the problem of the parent...usually not with any decent disciplined coach...

The team always comes before the individual

Unfortunately, some people think they are playing for sheep stations! Its in all clubs! People should look in their own backyards before slinging mud!
