Is it for sheep stations...yes/no

Post by KING NUGGETT »

My question is how much dose a Div 1.League Title (or lower Division Title) mean to you ?

What have you, or would you sacrifice to achieve it?

I have heard people say ''it's not for Sheep Stations''??? is it??? Yes/No

on the day ...in the moment , it can seem like it is
but in the cold hard light of day , meh , not so much

it is probably more personally satisfying to win in lower divisions, where the titles are not bought

i think the way u look at it is, are you (personally) capable of playing in a higher league? is the ametuar league as good as you can be? and i guess if players arnt then you would have to say there playing for sheep stations.

Not necessarily about sheep stations, but you do get to play on some very ordinary paddocks :)
And there's a fair bit of mutton out there dressed as lamb !

What's that famous Bill Shanklly (the famous Huddersfield Town manager) quote.
“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.”

The higher up you go, the more important winning seems to become.

The problem is that clubs that purely focus on winning and then if they don't, they generally fall away a year afterwards because its too much of the focus. Some recover, some get relegated and some disappear all together.

I'd love for Ingle Farm to win the title, not for me but for the players who play, train and give up a bit to help succeed; for the coaches who put double the amount of time in that the players do and for the people who have been around our club for 20-30 years and kept it running on the drop of an oily rag just to have a club. Last years Cup Final win for us was memorable for seeing people like Rob Patterson, Pop Newton, Paul Hurst, Ron Sparkes, Ted Beck, Peter King, Lee Perkins, Rob Bell (and many more) be able to enjoy some success after many, many years of help and money that they invest into the club just to keep it a float.

I've been fortunate enough only to have 1 year at the Farm when the reserves of first team hasn't won something but I'm not there for the success, people make a club, not trophies. Well in Amateurs anyway.

i disagree. i have won four div 1 titles, none of which were bought. lots of hard work went into winning them all and they were all very satisfying!

ding ding ding

Wouldn't even consider playing for a club that has only those approx 6 hours contact a week - training, training, game. At the end of the day if you aren't enjoying the social aspect, and play purely to win, somethings wrong.

Wouldnt say sheep stations but very satisfying knowing that no one got paid when we won sun div 1 then sat div 1 a couple of years later, more about the quality of guys who can appreciate it and party with you that is important, because its not easy to do

every moment i am awake, I want to win. Whether it be football, cricket or anything in life. If you're not playing to win then why bother even turning up.
Things I am owed because they're too tight to pay up:

Colossus: One House

Costa: One Lunch

Oh and add in

Colossus: one photo and one letter from his "attorney".

I would say yes for sure.
For some people is it sheep stations, some it isnt. I personally hate not training 2 nights a week. Other people dont really have that commitment.
It is the tough times though, when you are losing, near the bottom of the league, when the club is struggling, when the club looks like they will go under, are the times that make you strive to win therefore creating a better club.

Or maybe "other people" just have things that they deem to be more important like work and family etc - possibly the wrong choice of words especially as we are talking about AMATEUR football.

I'm with Jay Dubya, I'd love to win the league for the guys at the club putting in a lot of their time and money just to have a club.
