to all goalkeepers...whats your worst blunder....
just thought i'd start a topic what is your worst goalkeeper blunder....
mine was on the weekend.... free kick on the wing just outside the box and i totally mis judged the flight of the ball in the wind came out to catch it and slipped missed it and ball ended up in net (my grandma could of caught lol) that made the score 2-0 down lucky we scored with the last kick of the game a 30 yards screamer into the top corner to make it 2-2... made me feel a little better but still having nightmares about it.....
the only thing about being a keeper you can be a hero and villan all in the one game..... but strikers can miss many shots in a game but score the winner and they are the hero but as a keeper you pull of many great saves but make a mistake and cost your team the game......why do we do it cause when we do pull that match winning save of it's all worth it.....

Re: to all goalkeepers...
tough job keeping, outfield players go in for second efforts but i guess as a keeper you dont have second efforts, its first or goal

My worst blunder was playing in goals
Not really, thrived on the pressure...enjoyed being the first line of attack....being entertained by behind the goal hecklers...

yes must say miss the crowd at the downs and the banter behind the goals.....and the northern teams always well supported and didn't mind giving the keeper a word or two but i didn't mind having a laugh with them too......but when you made a mistake they let you know for the rest of the game lol.......
Re: to all goalkeepers...
haha yeah, that sums up my opinion on keepers too fer. i never get upset at clangers as outfield players are constantly making mistakes - positioning, touch, passing you name it. keepers get a raw deal from alot of folk.ferencvarosi1984 wrote:tough job keeping, outfield players go in for second efforts but i guess as a keeper you dont have second efforts, its first or goal]

There's been a couple this season - firstly against Modbury Jets and then two weeks later against Parafield Gardens.

This season?
I've had very limited game time but the free kick against St Peters was by far one of the easiest saves I've missed. My hands had no right being that far apart.

Playing for an Australian Select XI at Keele University in Stoke on Trent against the Newcastle United Youth squad in front of a lot of scouts. Had been playing really well, a couple mins to go and had the ball hit straight at my chest. Went to parry it down between my feet so I didn't knock it in somehow. It bounced on to the top of my foot, and rolled straight to their striker for a tap in.
Cue getting subbed straight away. Cue getting called "butter fingers" for the rest of the trip. Cue it being one of the games that was recorded. FML.

A few blunders from the Downs Reserve keeper last weekend....i like the one where he tapped it onto the upright, it came back hit him in the back of the head and ended up in the back of the net.

Re: to all goalkeepers...whats your worst blunder....
One time when a defender played the ball back to me,and I was very casual in letting the ball come to me, instead of going to meet it. By the time the ball got to me the opposition striker was very close, I panicked and "wellied" it right into him,and you can guess the rest, yep it bounced of him back past me into the goal, very embarrasing. We still won the game, and on Presentation Night,I won the Horse's A... award for the biggest blunder by a player during the season.

Playing in our C's against Elizabeth Vale on the weekend and pretty much killing my chances of playing at Hindmarsh this year.
Apart from that I have had a pretty flawless career as a keeper.

Re: to all goalkeepers...whats your worst blunder....
wouldnt say blunder as that was bad luck as it my trailing hand that knocked it in didnt even see where it went off the post. a few years ago was worse at the same ground when i went to collect the ball at my feet missed it with my hands and megged me. The lads then came up with a solution to creat a net between my legs to stop it from happening again.wato87 wrote:A few blunders from the Downs Reserve keeper last weekend....i like the one where he tapped it onto the upright, it came back hit him in the back of the head and ended up in the back of the net.

Re: to all goalkeepers...whats your worst blunder....
When I saw you had the last post in this thread I wondered if that goal was mentioned. I'd put it down as a blunder.
Re: to all goalkeepers...whats your worst blunder....
your opinion but id say the second was definately a blunder if i could have held the ball i wouldnt have had a problem. Seem to have to do alot more work this year and few mistakes are creeping in not to mention sorenessBodø Glimt wrote:When I saw you had the last post in this thread I wondered if that goal was mentioned. probably the worst one i've seen:

the worst i've done (that i can remember) is letting a ball go when i think its going wide only for it to hit the back of the net

Was that the 2-2 draw in division six last leason? That result put the title race back in our hands.berbatov wrote:probably the worst one i've seen:

Played in goals for Knights reserves on Sunday - should have been out injured with a broken leg (but I'm not one to make excuses) and we only had 10 players so I took a bullit for the team
Towards the end of the first half, I caught one of my players and missed the ball, which was tapped into an empty net
I think Swanny got a good shot of it in the Vista V Knights thread

They headed in a stoppage time own goal to give us a 2-3 win at Mylor a few weeks later too. Title race could have been very different!Kitchimo wrote:That was the equaliser (2-2).

I shudder to think what kind of reaction he would have had if the ball had actually hit him when the keeper threw it at him.

Wow! There must have been a real shortage of goalkeepers when you were coming through if you were representing the country... or was that the Aussie XI team playing in the spastic games. Heard you were a real YARDER when you were playing for BOSA last year. You might have been sucking off one of the coaches if Blackfriars is in your resume.LUFC wrote:Playing for an Australian Select XI at Keele University in Stoke on Trent against the Newcastle United Youth squad in front of a lot of scouts. You'd thin #8 scored a ripper with the way he was carrying on, not that he just fluked a goal.Franco UnAmerican wrote:Class act/response from the #8berbatov wrote:probably the worst one i've seen:
