Saturday Over 35's???????
What is the chances of a Saturday over 35 competition? Would any other clubs be interested in this and can you genuinely get a team together?
I know Iggies have thought about it and could probably get one together.

Re: Saturday Over 35's???????
Modbury Jets Afc are the only saturday club in sunday division ten but I know the Monarchs have a team in a rival competition. I couldn't tell you what day they play though.
Re: Saturday Over 35's???????
There's always the option of the Masters league.
Hahndorf C2 in Division 4A are an over 35s team, no? Is one of Vipers 'C' teams 'older' than the other? (I don't know, I'm curious). Chris Roe from Saints has suggested to me before that he could field an over 35s team.
We could easily field an over 35s team this (or next year) and I've been approached by people wanting to know if we were intending to field one.

In broad terms our Div 5 is generally 'older' then the Div 6 team, with a few guys being able to fit in to the o/35's bracket.Kitchimo wrote: Is one of Vipers 'C' teams 'older' than the other? (I don't know, I'm curious).
So i'd be confident in saying we'd be able to enter a club in the competition.

It sounds like a goer lads but please don't try and muscle your way into the Sunday over 35's Cup competition. Adding Saturday teams is about the only thing left that the SAASL could possibly do to make a bigger pigs ear of this rabble of a cup competetion they have already created.
Oh yeah and now that the Cougars want in - we don't want them Whaa Whaaing if they get drawn to play a Cup game on Mothers Day.

lol @ the Mothers Day quip.
I have to agree that this season's cup format is a joke. Reverted to a normal format, I wouldn't have any problems with saturday teams being added to the cup.

Wouldn't it be the more teams available in the Cup would make them get the format right? I figure that there are 13(?) over 35s teams now. Say 7 saturday teams get in that gives you 20 teams. Have a random Rreliminary Round with 8 of those teams player each other (12 automatic) to get to 16 total. You adjust or reduce the preliminary matches depending on the number of teams entered. You Too wrote:It sounds like a goer lads but please don't try and muscle your way into the Sunday over 35's Cup competition. Then you have 4 groups of 4 teams that play each other once (also drawn randomly) through Cup Round 1/2/3. Top two in each group go through and you have your Quarter Finals, but you seed it so that teams that finish top in the group can't play each other and vice-versa for teams that finish second.
Have a rule that all cup matches must be played on Sunday to keep the existing clubs happy and I think it's win/win.

Re: Saturday Over 35's???????
I've had a chat to a few of the older boys at the Raptors a little while back and we were talking about getting an over 35's team together (for the 2011 season) but we would prefer to play Saturdays. I'm sure we'll have more than enough to get a team together.

Talk to the league and if there is enough teams/players, can't see why it wouldn't go ahead.

Should just be the day the home team is drawn same as other cup comps,

I agree,I would play in a Saturday O/35s comp, and would be happy if they make all the Cup matches Sunday games, how many would there be in a 32 team competition, maybe 4, or five if you make the final ?Kitchimo wrote:Wouldn't it be the more teams available in the Cup would make them get the format right? 32-16-8-4-2.
My premise that I used above was
- based on the fact that there would be around 20ish teams if a Saturday comp was to go ahead
- giving most (not teams who got knocked out in a prelim round obviously) an extra 3 or 4 games on top of their smaller league schedule. These can coincide with the current or future 'league diary'.

Sounds good, may not have a huge number of teams to start with, once it's up and running it will soon increase.

I'd prefer us to play in the sunday comp anyway, so that I could play both days.

Oh and add in

Any clubs in the North looking at a Saturday 35s? - possible Sunday coaching commitments might see some players try their hand on a Saturday instead?
