Does anyone care about the 3rd/4th place playoff?

Post by pino »

I'll watch it because it is a game of football.
But do player who have been knocked out in the semi's really want to play a consolation final?

So apart from FIFA and the betting companies does anyone actually care?

I care...more football OLEEEE but having said that, during the semifinal I imagined Spain in the 3rd place playoff...and I struggled to imagine myself caring too much, same thing happened in the Confederations Cup, I just wanted Spain to save face more than anything.

there are still some going for the golden boot, so maybe some care.

Personally, couldn't care less. Don't even remember the one of these we've been in. We lost to italy but that's all I can actually remember.

Oh, C'mon Hawkesy and 'the-gun'.

It's a World Cup once every 4 years, so what if you miss out a bit of beauty sleep?

Besides it could be a shoot-out for the golden boot between Klose, Mueller, Forlan and Suarez.

And I remember, for example, a terrific 3rd place play-off in 2002 (S.Korea 2 Turkey 3) which had everything, including relaxed players expressing themselves, ignoring their coaches who preached fear with orders like "mark him, watch that player there" and just went for it.

I reckon Italy 90 is the only one I could even tell you who won it. I wold have to think hard as to who was even in them most years.

As for missing beauty sleep, I'll be in the beer garden of a pub so sleep will not be on my mind.

I'll take your word for it. I don't remember much of that tournament as I was in Japan at the time and in those days I think they broadcast about six matches.

from memory schillachi scored a late penalty. Don't actually remember watching it though, just read in the paper today that it was a late penalty and a vague memory of it being "toto" who scored it.
