Far be it for me to defend an Australian but I think any ordinary person with no axe to grind can see that Kewell's intent was to get his chest to the ball while Suarez' and Fucile's was anything but. I think you are being purposefully blind in order to be controversial.Hawkesy wrote:a deliberate handball that stopped a goal v a deliberate handball that stopped a goal. Quite. Am saying that if the referee had avenue for a straight goal + red in a situation like that quarter-final he would have gone to it.Hawkesy wrote:Mr Magoo wrote:Far be it for me to defend an Australian but I think any ordinary person with no axe to grind can see that Kewell's intent was to get his chest to the ball while Suarez' and Fucile's was anything but. probably but also if he hadn't deemed it as a deliberate handball then he wouldn't have given the penalty.Mr Magoo wrote:Quite. Am saying that if the referee had avenue for a straight goal + red in a situation like that quarter-final he would have gone to it.

Is there a World Cup on ?
______________ ______________
Re: what will you remember from WC 2010 South Africa
France
Italy
English fans thinking their team actually had a chance at winning the thing
Maradona (I hope he comes back again purely for my personal amusement)
An advertising campaign made up completely of fail - every player in the Nike "Write the future" ads was pathetic, and Ronaldinho didn't even make it to South Africa. The stupid Australian ads focused on Tim Cahill and Harry Kewell were made even funnier by their dismal performance.
My image of Africa being shattered - I was expecting perhaps some cultural insight and Africans showing the world they were ready to move forward and instead I get a bunch of clowns in huge glasses playing instruments which made my ears bleed.

Deliberate hand balls, especially in the penalty area, are damn rare. It doesn't stop every single player/spectator/etc calling for every single ball that hits the hand, and referees giving half of them.

yes, that's why the penalty was given and he was sent off.

referee had a clear view of it and decided it was deliberate handball. You'd have been screaming at the ref to send him off if it had happened against australia.

Yes, because referees always ONLY pay deliberate hand balls.Hawkesy wrote:Chade wrote:yes, that's why the penalty was given and he was sent off.Hawkesy wrote:Of course, I forgot, Kewell's was deliberate.

Re: what will you remember from WC 2010 South Africa
i will remember:
1. the Socceroos embarrassment against Germany
2. possibly the only time we'll see Maradona coaching at a World Cup..and that suit
3. Germany playing entertaining football
4. the stupid ball which has fucked up set pieces and distance volleys
5. Paul the Octopus

are you suggesting that FIFA qualified refs who have moved through the ranks successfully after numerous exams and being inspected are not actually following the Laws of the Game.
