Germany v Spain
Good opening so far. Spain as usual dominating possession, delightful through-ball by Pedro to Villa, saved by Neuer. Story of the match is of course that Torres is not in the starting team.

Re: Germany v Spain
Just love the way spain are playing. So much patience and not giving that ball away cheaply is good football. I would love to see the possesion statistics at HT.
Re: Germany v Spain
I'm almost asleep again! The possession football is awesome, but fashioning no chances. Germany likewise haven't really threatened.

iniesta was that man, controlled the game and dished off critical passes to villa to shoot.redsfan wrote:harsh, he got greedy an bottle of shiraz up the goal chance but other than that he was just about Spains most dangerous player all game.FPV #18 wrote:lol pedro is cabernet. what a waste of space that guy is lol

Spain's first time in the final stage. Besides I can see why you think was a boring game, you are Norwegian aren't you?
Re: Germany v Spain
boring? sure it wasn't edge of the seat end to end excitement but it was hardly boring. Fascinating and frustrating is how i would describe it, the Spanish midfield made the Germans look second rate tbh.
Spain is at the level that Germany wants to get to, they have a very good platform to build on heading into the 2012 Euro's and 2014 WC.

Re: Germany v Spain
the way football should be played... valuing possession and not giving up the ball... the jabulani sales in spain must be down as they dont sell the ball cheaply

Found it hard to stay awake to be honest. yesterday's was better viewing
was like watching a training session, ok for purist but low on entertainment
however once goal was scored it livened up though
if only that had happened early in the game

Agreed.
Pedro was a player that Germany wasn't ready for.

They didn't have a final in 1950, it was another round robin group with all the prelim group winners, of which Spain came bottom.Ocean Rain wrote:No they made the final stage in 1950.Steward wrote:Ocean Rain wrote:What a boring game. Spain into the final stage of the world cup for the second time.
Spain's first time in the final stage.
First time in a world cup final though.

Spain V Netherlands.
I can't think of anything worse. Spain playing possession football against a 5 man Dutch midfield. Great! Will be a game of constant probing with very little substance.
I was really hoping Germany would win.

Perhaps the 3rd/4th play off, Germany v Uruguay, could provide some better entertainment.El Capitano wrote:Spain V Netherlands.

+1 v. good game by Pedro.johnydep wrote:Agreed.redsfan wrote:harsh, he got greedy an bottle of shiraz up the goal chance but other than that he was just about Spains most dangerous player all game.FPV #18 wrote:lol pedro is cabernet. what a waste of space that guy is lol
Pedro was a player that Germany wasn't ready for.
And at the same time, as soon as they went ahead, he should have come off. His direct running and movement creates space and distends the defenders - once they scored, they needed someone to hold the ball up and, if the chance came, slot another one. Pedro, for all his skills, doesn't really do neither of them - he tends to overplay the ball (more than the rest of the Spain squad), and doesn't have the strength nor the nous.
Fantastic game by Xavi, and christ but Germany were scared of Iniesta - every time he had the ball, he always, always had 2 players intercepting him.
