Like I said elsewhere, for those that know what they're on about, they worry about what they can control, sort it out and get on about doing the job better next time.

Former World Cup referee Graham Poll has said FIFA should consider introducing penalty-goals after Luis Suarez's handball prevented a last-gasp goal against Uruguay and in so doing denied Ghana a certain semi-final place.
"The officials got it spot on, dismissing Suarez and awarding a penalty, but that gave Uruguay a lifeline they did not deserve," Poll wrote in the Daily Mail. "Referee Olegario Benquerenca would have been relieved to spot the handball, but in the dressing room afterwards his team would have discussed the sense of injustice.
"The clause in the law under which Suarez was dismissed was the denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity. The problem is that Ghana were denied a goal, not just the opportunity to score one. A penalty-goal in these circumstances would be appropriate."
While some argued Suarez acted instinctively, Poll said that should not affect the punishment against his team. "If that is true then awarding a penalty-goal and a yellow card seems more appropriate. Then the wronged team would not be denied a goal and the instinctive act less harshly punished.
"The denial of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity was seen in the Paraguay-Spain quarter-final, when Antolin Alcaraz brought down David Villa. No striker converts every chance, so awarding a penalty seems fair. Referee Carlos Batres failed to dismiss the Paraguay defender, but it was only an opportunity denied and not a certain goal."

He was rightly given a red card, sent off (did not complain), Ghana were correctly awarded a penalty, which Gyan missed. Unfortunately they lost on pens - thats football.

Exactly. However, the penalty for Suarez for such blatant (I don't want to call it cheating but it's not far off) abuse of the Laws, should be at least 3 games. He made no attempt to head it or chest it (as Kewell did perhaps?).

suarez stated best save ever and would do it again does that make him a cheat or someone with lots of $$$$ to loose?
in todays media / television when players blatantly break the rules it lowers the spectical of the game and fair play FIFA motto
good on suarez anyway. He may have stopped the goal and it proved to be a great move. he will be a hero if uruguay go on to win. 9 out of 10 players would do the same thing anyway. people that think the rules should be changed are rather stupid. suarez incident + kewell incident = same thing
Perhaps, just leave the rule how it is, after all how often does this occur...
On the occasions that there is a deliberate handball on the line then a penalty is awarded and a red card issued to the offending player. if the penalty is missed (as happened int he Uruguay and Ghana game) then play continues as normal, end of story. This is the same when a goal keeper trips a player that has an open goal, defenders fouling the last man when on a direct route to goal, etc, these are all red cards and free kicks, not resulting in a certain goal as well as a penalty and red card.
I dont think its worth debating a rule change as it would open a series of other problems and precedents.
