How will Australia fare at the Asian Cup in 6 months
Considering both Japan and Korea have done so well in the world cup, how will the aussie go? Also the weather will play a massive part again.

disagree. Asian Cup is a realistic opportunity for us to get some silverwear, which will give Australian football some respectability here and overseas. It was embarrassing the way we performed last time, FFA must take it seriously.ozzie owl wrote:For me I would focus on Brazil 2014. After the Serbia game, if they play that well they can win it. Anything less than the semi's would be disappointing

we seem to be able to bully most Asian teams into losing, so we should do alright
South Korea are the main threat I think, we seem to be able to deal with Japan

I think alot has to do with
1. who retires from the playing squad
2. who is coaching and their style.
should be interesting to see how the new look socceroo's go.

I think they'll struggle...unless we can find a master coach that can get a transitional squad up and running like Guus did

06 wasn't really a transitional squad... most of our best players were in their primeOnionBag wrote:I think they'll struggle...unless we can find a master coach that can get a transitional squad up and running like Guus did

Guus got the 06 squad up and running like no Socceroos squad before it...whether it was transitional or not is beside the point
the new coach will inherit a transitional squad, and his challenge is to mold them into a cohesive unit in a short space of time

unless Kewell is 100% fit... I would leave him out of the Asian Cup squad... time to let others step up instead of all attention focused on Harry..
Whoever is given the task of coaching this squad is going to have some balls with dealing with an half fit Harry.

I wouldnt be concerned with the fact that South Korea and Japan made it through to the second round. If we were in either of their groups we probably would have. We only just missed out on qualification from a very difficult group. Then add that we were unbeaten through the qualifiers and im fairly content with how we are going into the AC (pending new head coach)

We have silverware...Oceanian championships coming out the ying yang, would be nice to be champions of 2 different continents...surely unprecedented?themagnet wrote:disagree.
