I reckon the shiraz Australia served up was 10 x better than the shiraz that Italy served up.
Look at their results and the rankings of their opponents.
On world rankings prior to the WC we were 3rd in our group and finished 3rd.
Italy were ranked #1 in their group and finished 4th.
Mind you I think the Italians bring something special to the World Cup (usually).

Being an Italian fan (as well as an Australian fan), I would agree with this. Although I would say that the first game for Australia was a pretty pathetic display too, and not just because of the score line.

When people attack Real Madrid, I also mention their trophies, it never seems to be a valid argument nor should it be in this case. Italy may have a good history, but also they're an older nation, they've had more time to cultivate their footballing culture also geographically they were advantaged.

I've never quite understood why Australia never became a footballing nation, surely we were culturally advantaged?
