The Asian Cup is only six and a bit months away, and our performances against Ghana and Serbia - at a WC that we went into with several key players severely underdone - prove we are good enough to win it.
Of course, Korea Republic and Japan will be tough to beat and there might even be another surprise packet like last time with Iraq, but we really should be aiming to bring the cup home in my opinion.
There's been some speculation that Australia's Asian Cup squad will be made up of mostly A-League players as it's being held in January, but - given that the Turkish, Dutch, Russian and Swiss leagues all have mid-season breaks in January - the following players should be available: Kewell, Neil, Jedinak, Djite, Holman, Carney, Rukavytsya, Holland, Wilkshire, Chipperfield. Add to this list those playing in Asian leagues such as Spiranovic, Kennedy, Milligan etc as well as Culina, Beauchamp and perhaps Carle from the A-League and we have the basis of a pretty strong squad.
Hopefully Everton and Fulham will let Cahill and Schwarzer play as well, but if not I still think Australia can win it. What does everyone else think?

Oh really?
I read an article a few weeks before the World Cup started and Chipperfield was suggesting he wanted to play on for a while after the WC, I guess he is more than getting on a bit though.
Well, he'll always be a remembered as a Wollongong, Basel and Socceroos legend.

Yeah, he signed a one-year-deal at the end of the last season for Basel.
My brother and I were talking about Chippers the other day and he told me that Chippers is the most-winning player in Basel's 100-odd year history. I knew he'd played the fourth or fifth most caps for them, but didn't know he'd played in the most winning matches. No other Aussie has a record like that for a Euro club, and probably never will.

looking forward to the Asian Cup now. Obviously South Korea are our biggest test in group stage but if aussies play like they did against serbia, they will go along way and probably win the tournament.

Chippers in Germany was A1. Didn't get the accolades he deserved. Saved us numerous times defensively and always dangerous on the attack. No fuss, just did his job - a big loss.
