my kids were born and live in australia, they're as much English as they are australian though and I actively encourage them to be English by buying them England football, cricket and rugby shirts.

Re: Attention: Serbs in Adelaide
I'm half English, born and bred here will support Australia over England anytime. If I was born in England, spent alot of time there and then moved here I'd feel different.
This topic was done to death a long time ago. Just an example, Aus v Greece in Melbourne, thousands of Greeks, as young as 9/10 singing over the Australian national anthem with the Greek one, most probably born here and never even been out of the country. boils my piss. Happens with every nationality

would depend on how you are raised I guess. My kids are the same as you, I hope they disagree with you when they are older.
So far my son is coming to the cricket with me in november and will be wearing his England shirt.

My Kids embrace and respect the country they are lucky enough to be born in and will most likely spend their entire lives in. I want the best for England and hope they win the World Cup, provided they do not play Australia. Is that wrong?

NO! If you feel more aussie than English then fair enough. You are half and half so you would always support the one you feel you have more affiliation with.

Re: Attention: Serbs in Adelaide
Why wouldn't I. I was born here and spent my 37 years here. If you were sitting in Wembley, England v Australia and the person next to you started singing the Australian national anthem whilst the English one was being played. You then find out that person was born and raised in England and lived there his entire life. As an Englishman you'd be disgusted and most probably throttle him, yes?

I'd throttle him for singing over God Save the Queen with something else full stop. I would then expect him to give up his British passport and the benefits that go along with that.
That's up to you, as I said I just said that I hope my kids feel differently when they get older. They are as much English as they are australian.

Re: Attention: Serbs in Adelaide
That's my point. That's what happens here, people turn their back on this Country. My kids are Australian first and foremost, but will always respect England, It's in their blood. Unfortunaltely for the poor little sods it's black and white blood and they are too young to realise what's in store for them.

i fkn hate it wen 2nd or 3rd generation people who were born in AUSTRALIA support the team playing against australia just cos your grandma or ya dad was born over there. if u are born here u are australian and u support australia.
4yrs ago wen the aussies played italy( dad and grand parents from italy), i was aussie thru n thru and had tears in my eyes when we lost that game.

Re: Attention: Serbs in Adelaide
I think you will find that most who live here actually support Australia 99.9% of the time, the question isnt whether people support Australia, but who they would support if by some slim chance, their country of origin clashed with their country of birth/residence, a big difference i would of thoughtsparrow wrote:I'd just like to politely add that if anyone born and living in this country supports another, shiraz OFF

Dont blame you Petro, id support Australia over Italy also, any day of the week Seriously though, remember this, if there wasnt world war, the chances are youd be living in your country of origin. Do you look Italian, or Aboriginal (true Asutralian)??? Were you brought up eating witchety (sp?) grubs & pie floaters, or pizza & lasagna??? etc etc etc This subject has been done to death really. But it gives us a good laugh every single time. I think the important thing is, we all follow Australia against every other nation bar maybe 1, and thats the main thingPetro83 wrote:i shiraz hate it wen 2nd or 3rd generation people who were born in AUSTRALIA support the team playing against australia just cos your grandma or ya dad was born over there. if u are born here u are australian and u support australia.

I would rather someone supporting us because they have real passion, anyone that is confused when Australia plays thier "parents" country of birth can bugger off and support the opposition......Petro83 wrote:i shiraz hate it wen 2nd or 3rd generation people who were born in AUSTRALIA support the team playing against australia just cos your grandma or ya dad was born over there. if u are born here u are australian and u support australia.

I don't understand how anyone can not support 100% the country of their birth, the country that gives them the lifestyle they obviously take for granted.
In saying that........Once Australia is knocked out go your harderst to support your parents country of birth.
Re: Attention: Serbs in Adelaide
This is an emotional 'no-one-wins' topic.
It can be argued that if you work, study and have your home here, let alone were born here, you should barrack for OZ. But then again, when OZ comes up against the country of your parents' heritage....
It can also be argued we're not a nation - we're an economy. In some states transported originally here as convicts, many of the rest of us economic refugees from war-torn, poverty-stricken Europe and Asia who thought the streets here were paved with gold.

they can follow australia all they want but if they choose to follow them OVER England then clearly they have made their choice and do not deserve to be a part of my nation. They can fuck off and support the lesser countries.

You cannot even begin to compare yourself to those Greeks you speak of and dont even try. You say your HALF English??? Well your a bastard then correct??? Im not buddy, im FULL GREEK, and if you cant handle that im GREEK, then its you who need to FU.CK OFF. Its WAN.KERS like you who called me a WOG when i was growing up, but now you want me to FU.CK OFF because i dont say im Australian??? GET THE FU.CK OUT OF HERE YOU HYPOCRITE HALF BRED BASTARD. I know what i am, i aint confused, that is you. Im a GREEK who was born in AUSTRALIA, and thats the end of it. Just because i was born here doesnt make me a Billabong surfing, pie floater eating Anglo like yourself. No, i eat Mousaka, Pastitsio, Dolmades, Souvlaki, Yiros (with Garlic sauce), and i grow Kalamata Olives in my back yard. If you dont like it, then FU.CK OFF YOURSELF because i am sick and tired of FU.CKHEADS like YOURSELF. Re: Attention: Serbs in Adelaide
This has nothing to do wth harmony, this is about someone telling me who he wants me to be. I dont need to be told who i am, i am quite comfortable with who i am. Its not as if i got up this morning and supported Serbia. I supported Australia, i got up and watched every one of their games as i did with Greece. However, telling me who i am is a little rich coming from a half cast i would of thought. I just love the hypocricy. Im WOG when its convenient and AUSTRALIAN when its also convenient. My parents came to this country, adapted to its lifestyle with no complaints and hard fucking work and they raised their children as GREEKS because that is what we are, but to respect the values of the country we live in and thats exactly what me and my sibling have done. For some half cast to then come on here and bag me because i call myself something i am which he doesnt approve of really irritates me to the point it makes me sick because its that mentality that has Australia hold its number 1 position of RACIST COUNTRY. Its he who needs to accept that he lives in a multi cultural society whereby the majority of people in this country with an Ethnicity other than the Anglo one, havent lost their Ethnicity, but rather have shared and mixed with the many other wonderful Ethnicities that are alive and well in this country while maintaining the values of the Australian way of life which is to be given a fair go. Their is no "fair go" in his post, its all about his Australia, and his Australia ceased to exist the moment Europeans landed, because Australia is no longer a convict colony, its a country of mixed racial ethnicities who still hold their values strong while accepting the Australian way of life, its that simpleMad_Max wrote:You have to marvel at the way the World Cup promotes harmony.

Colossus, you sound very ungrateful for being born in the greatest country on earth.
I was the first member of my family to be born in Australia, and could not speak English until i was at school, yet i have always and will always call myself an Australian.
