Attention: Serbs in Adelaide

Post by Hosovac »

Knowing this was a tough decision for many Adelaide Croats 4 years ago when Australia played Croatia in their final group game, I'm interested to know which country you will be supporting come this Thursday 4am?

Where did you read one recently?

Unless you're a serb, the topic wasn't directed at you - so here's a hint, don't open and read it!  Especially you TGJ!

Like I said in my original post, it was a tough decision for many "Aussie Croats" here 4 years ago, so I was wondering if members of the serb community here are finding the decision tough also...

Fair enough Mers.

Kosta, I went for Cro...I'd followed them at Euro's and WC's before hand, amazing feelings and good times and I'm not one to change allegiances or sit on the fence. Bit like I still support my VFL club in the AFL even though there are 2 new Adelaide teams in the comp...not the same thing I know but you get my drift...point...if ysa know what I mean?

Replace Serbia with Greece - who would you be supporting Thursday morning?

Read my posts - self explanatory to most with a brain as to why I'm interested.

No trouble? What you missed the disgruntled South African workers being shot at by their own police, and the G&G Army's bogans doing Australia proud?

I have thought over many times and its a tough one Hosovac.. I consider myself an aussie but cannot underestimate how much i love and am proud of my greek heritage. So i would feel bad with supporting one over the other. Sorta like having two personalities.. If Australia scored against Greece part of me would be happy and the other feel the hurt and vice versa.

I know it sounds like im sitting on the fence but it feels normal, probably cos through my whole life im considered a WOG in this country and a SKIP in Greece :D

so to sum it up id probably cut both countries Guernsey's i half, stitch them together, get pissed and go with the mentality that, no matter what happens in the match, i cant lose :D

hey while i was in germany in 06, i met this Croat who had done just that, cut two shirts in half and stitched them together 8)

It is a very tough decision I agree - which is why I asked the original question coz I know it split many in the Cro community 4 years ago - not to start another balkan war thread as el capitano put it.

They were selling those tops here in Australia, I know a few people who were wearing them here also 4 years ago.

Ill answer your question Hos based on my own personal experience. As you know our countries were at war and and the ripe old age of 35 i recieved national service papers delivered here in Oz. NOw this was the second time this happened. The first time was when i was 16 and i was exhonourated at 29(standard). All expats were sent these same doc's and the result of non compliance was jail time upon arrival into the country. Ill keep it brief so as not to bore anyone too much. I contacted the Oz embassy to find out where i stood in relation to this as i had to go over for personal reasons and would be travelling with an Australian passport. In no uncertain terms i was told that as a i was born in Serbia my first nationality is Serbian and the Australian government would not not could not do anything to assist me regardless of what happened or which passport i travelled with. Needless to say i was not able to go to tend to my ill father who was in hospital over there.

So i think the answer to your question is obvious in my case anyways 8)

surely any real serb, especially those born there, will be supporting serbia.

If England played australia, my loyalties would not even be up for debate in my head. My kids might however have divided loyalties.

Any "serb" supporting australia should no longer be able to call themselves serbian.

Are you saying if you thought Aus were going to do well you would support them? If so that is bandwagoning.

any australian not supporting australia should hand in his passport and stop pretending to be australian

any serbian not supporting serbia should hand in their serbian passport and stop pretending to be serbian
