Re: Group F: Italy v New Zealand
Lol people are giving NZ too much credit, sitting back and defending against a bunch of ill coached players who are shite at attacking by putting 11 players behind the ball isn't worth man of the match. De Rossi worked harder than anyone on that pitch and probably ran more, unlike the NZ players who set up camp in their final third and had the easy task of heading away a few garbage crosses.

I'm not denying the score. I didn't say i don't give credit to NZ, they did play well for what they had to do, but these days Italy arent much of an opposition. I am as proud of Italy as anyone, but i'm not gonna shy away from the truth, which is simple. We're not as good as we used to be and changes haven't been made, but they will be soon enough and come the next World Cup, Italy should be back, so long as Prandelli does what is necessary.

Re: Group F: Italy v New Zealand
People really can't understand what i'm trying to say on Forums. I'm just saying that YES while this was a momentus victory against "The World Champions", we aren't the World Champions of 06. They're making it sound like Italy are a powerhouse now but when people say New Zealand beat Italy, people think of the longstanding reputation Italy has with Footballing success making the victory out to be bigger than it was. The team that played against New Zealand conceded 3 goals to Cyprus, that is not a team you associate with Italy.
So for the last time, no i'm not bagging New Zealand, all credit to them, BUT not as much credit as the world is giving them simply becoz Italy are a shadow at the moment.

Re: Group F: Italy v New Zealand
Italy are actually playing pretty good football. Dominated possession in both games but it's too bad they always go a goal behind and have to play catch up to walke them up. Really can see us missing out on qualification. There's just no spark besides Montolivo who played really well last night.
Is Pirlo back for Slovakia?
And yes what happens if Italy and NZ end up on same points, same goals scored for and against?
Who goes through?

All Whites future could be a lottery NZPA - June 21, 2010, 4:48 pm
NZPA ©
After 270 minutes of nailbiting endeavour against the world's best footballers, the World Cup fate of the All Whites could simply come down to a soccer lottery.
After two rounds of group F, Italy and New Zealand are locked together in second place after two draws and an identical number of goals for and against.
If that remains the situation when pool play is completed on Friday, Fifa will decide which side progress to the quarterfinals by picking a name out of a hat, so the All Whites or world champions Italy could be eliminated on the basis of a random draw...
Can any FIFA trainspotter confirm?

Round of 16 = quarter finals.

PS - The lottery thing is correct

Yep, a drawing of lots which is the 7th possible decider. It goes,
- Points
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Head to head record
- Head to head goal difference
- Head to head goals scored
- Drawing of lots
- Points
- Goal difference
- Goals scored
- Head to head record
- Head to head goal difference
- Head to head goals scored

Re: Group F: Italy v New Zealand
If positions arent decided by "Head to head record" arent the next 2 steps totally useless in 1 leg round robin???Juventino wrote:Yep, a drawing of lots which is the 7th possible decider. It goes,

Re: Group F: Italy v New Zealand
Hope the drawing-of-lots is done under Police guard. Any Police would do exept N.S.W.

Yeah, the same though occurred to me too. Bit of a poor way to decide who qualifies though, but tbh I can't think of an alternative. The Kop wrote:If positions arent decided by "Head to head record" arent the next 2 steps totally useless in 1 leg round robin???Juventino wrote:Yep, a drawing of lots which is the 7th possible decider. World Cup rules state that the Carabinieri guard the draw and a certain Mr Berlusconi picks the ball.Mr Magoo wrote:Hope the drawing-of-lots is done under Police guard. Any Police would do exept N.S.W.

Years ago they had playoffs. For Euro 2008 there was a provision for a penalty shoot out if it was between two teams meeting each other in the final group game (almost heppened too btween the Czech and Turks).Nice One Cyril wrote:Yeah, the same though occurred to me too. you understand that a margin is the difference in score between the teams, right?
if it's a draw, the margin is always 0
still nothing to do with margin

Heard it is now going to be decided this way......
