Re: 10 Best Bands of All Time
Only based on personal taste and or influences...
Moody Blues (up to Seventh Sojourn album) were the first band I followed
Pink Floyd (mainly with Barrett) but up until Wish You Were Here...love Dave Gilmour's guitar style.
Fleetwood Mac (the Green period)..love Peter Green's economy of notes.
Beatles the epitomized music from 1962-1970, short simple, melodic, harmonies.
The Doors..Robbie Krieger's guitar, Manzarek's keyboards, Morrison's voice and charisma.
Tangerine Dream precursors to a lot of modern music. Friends at school were listening to Sweet etc...they thought I was on drugs!
Rolling Stones..don't really like the band but some of their early music was spot on.
Clem Snide current favourite, love the lyrics
Ten CC (mostly with Godley & Creme)..inventive, clever and lyrically sarcastic.
Cold Chisel (based on live performances I went to)..plus Don Walker's lyrics and Moss's guitar playing.

Re: 10 Best Bands of All Time
Smiths - Just about anything they’ve ever done – “Oh mother I can feel the soil falling over my head…”
Brinsley Schwarz - best pub band ever and best song ever "(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace Love and Understanding"
David Bowie - started going down hill after Ziggy Stardust, though a lot of the post-Ziggy stuff is still pretty good.
Humble Pie- ‘Performance (Rockin the Fillmore) - all time No.1 Album
Small Faces - “Life is just a bowl of All Bran’
Bruce Springsteen – one of the few US acts that did anything for me
U2– one of the few Irish acts that did anything for me
Rod Stewart - early stuff and during his time with the Faces
Cold Chisel - always brings back good memories of my early days hitching around Oz
Fleetwood Mac - Judas Priest did not write ‘The Green Manalishi (with the two pronged crown)

preface: popularity doesnt equate to quality
but
why doesn’t dance/pop/rap/hip hop/RNB feature considering it has dominated charts (thus retail sales) for the last 25 years?

To be honest I more or less switched off around the mid 1980s - very little since then has rocked my boat.
