Brad Jones granted leave from Socceroos camp

Post by Red-4-Life »

Qantas Socceroos Goal keeper Brad Jones has been granted leave from the 2010 FIFA World Cup ™ camp after receiving news of a serious illness in his family.

Jones left South Africa yesterday to be with his immediate family and it is unclear at this stage whether he will return and participate in the tournament.

FFA has applied to FIFA for the ability to replace Jones in the Qantas Socceroos squad if necessary due to “special circumstances” and is awaiting written approval.
Sad news for Jones.

Good news for Galekovic if FIFA allow him to join the 23-man squad.

I don't think FIFA will unless Jones has to leave for a serious injury.

His son has been diagnosed with cancer. I think they will allow a replacment.

that's very sad, cancer is a terrible thing even more so for a small child :(

what should have been one of his happiest moments in life has been destroyed by this horrible news, although I think the WC will be the very last thing on his mind at the moment

A very sad time ahead for Brad Jones and good luck to his family and his son.

On the other hand it does give Eugene the chance to be one of few A-League keepers at the world cup.

That's terrible news for Brad and his family!
I wish and pray all the best to his little boy.
I know Eugene would not like the way he has been granted the 3rd spot keepers position.
But he would do Brad and Australia very proud if called upon

yep... all the best to Jones and his family in this tough time...

I bet Eugene would be feeling he would rather have Brad Jones at the world cup and not the sad events at home. It's not the way I would want to get a spot in the squad that's for sure...

Hope Jones' son makes a full recovery.

So sad.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery for the young lad.

have you never worked?
I imagine FIFA would work on a similar basis for leave - medical or compassionate
