Club Referees - Do they have to meet any kind of standard?

Post by Steward »

What is it with home team referees and absolute blatant crap performance. I am sick of hearing the do gooders 'at least they put their hand up bla fucken bla' - what a load of fucken shit and usually comes from the people who don't even fully understand the laws of the game.

Well there is a difference between honest mistakes and completely ignorant and blatant cheating when you have power on that park. I have first hand witnesses this ignorance more than once this season and it should not be acceptable at any level. SAASL should be randomly & anonymously inspecting these games and if the home team referee is found to be guilty of blatant cheating without reasonable doubt then they should be fined & deducted the day's points.

Why is something like this so hard to implement? Oh hang on, this is the SAASL.

They have to be at least Level 5 qualified, which a trained chimpanzee could pass. The inspecting has been suggested and is due to be implemented. A number of refs are being trained as inspectors and asked to turn up for B's games to examine. They are already supposed to be turning up early in order to unofficially do it.

To make matters worse what about the linesman scenario..........seriously........very frustrating but with a lack of people willing to officiate.......WTF can you do about it.....can you answer that for us please?

For three home games in a row our club has failed to organise refs for the div 4 reserves. I have had to ref a game, as well as another player - and we have zero referee training and no real knowledge of the intricacies of the laws of the game. Happened again today and thankfully there was a legit ref with the opposition team who could do it. Farken outrageous, if SAASL cracked down maybe my club could pull its finger out of its arse. It's unfair for players to be put under the pressure of having to referee if they are not trained/qualified to do so.

I wouldn't be admitting that if I was you. If you don't have a qualified ref then you lose the game.

Now that I have stopped laughing, I have been around the saasl for about 30 years. The situation has always been the same 1st division games get official refs and the reserve and lower grades club refs. The blatant cheating that happens with some club refs really stuffs up the game to the point where it is frustrating and tempers flare and has and will keep ending up in violence. I think that if the situation arises where a club ref has gone over the top with cheating, the coach of the opposition team should ring the saasl on the Monday after the game and alert them to the situation. The saasl could take the details of the game, and name of said ref and log it into a file if there is enough complaints over a season then the named person should be asked to explain. If complaints continue to be reported then perhaps the refs club should not let him officiate. Im not talking about 50/50 decisions I am refering to blatant, pathetic outright cheating. The same should be applied to linesmen.

A very good post Cocko and I agree with alot of your points.

I just can't get my head around the fact that some club refs deliberately cheat.

Really how satisfied can a club be with a win that is not earnt, this blows me away.

I have no issue with the home side getting the better percentage of calls, your at home so why shouldn't you.

But for a ref not to act on dirty or illegal tackles just opens up the chance of teams taking it into their own hands.

I agree that some of the refereeing standards are not of a high standard....but....
Why not let rip into some of the forwards with their sub-standard shooting..
Some of the goalkeepers with their terrible judgement and overweighted figures...
Some of the defenders with their terrible late takles...etc...etc...

These aren't deliberate, Cheating is

At the end of the day, no one should complain about a club ref that has bias, it's human nature to want your side to do well.

But deliberate cheating is a no no and that is what this thread is about.

Swanny....What I have bolded is what I have reffered to.....Hense leaving the defender line untouched
Anyway........If a player cheats it is up to the one that controls the game to put it right....Who officiates the club refs?

This is where the problem lies and what the thread is about

Not disagreeing about refereeing standards.....
Just pointing out that we don't highlight others mistakes anywhere near as much !
The finger gets pointed at officials and administrators....
Participant's and spectator's behaviours contribute a lot to the atmosphere that doesn't help attract decent referees !

I'm with Franco, on this one.
If a player is not performing, then his coach deals with him, pherhaps, substituting him, missing a week or being dropped to a lower grade.
If a player committs a foul (being, decepitive, foul lang or unsportmanslike) the referee deals with him, caution, send off, report etc.

When a club referee, is not performing who is dealing with him? The club should be responsible and should deal with it, not SAASL. I believe most clubs do the right thing and I understand they are doing so many other things that they don't have time for making sure officials within their club are performing, but it is another responsibility, just like making sure they have training balls, match balls, someone putting up nets, marking the pitch etc. Some clubs overlook this and they shouldn't.

Fcuk....Can't some of you people read.......It is about deliberate cheating not a guy out there doing his best.

Go and start another thread if you want to argue the quality of refereeing.   geez.
