Ghiggia did score the winner for Uruguay in the 79th minute in front of a crowd of over 173,000, ( but estimated to be around 210,000 ) at the Maracana Stadium in 1950 in the Uruguay v Brazil game It was the last game in the final 4 group round robin and is often listed as the 1950 final !

I think the official crowd figure was 199,854 but what's 25,000 or so here or there.

Still a record for any stand alone football fixture (and probably of any stand alone sporting match)
